All the Fun of the LAPADA Fair!

Apologies for not sending out our normal preview of approaching fairs but we are changing our newsletter to Mailchimp and so missed the September issue.  This entails a change of format which is rather narrow on a large screen but better for tablets and iPads (so I am told).  In the meantime LAPADA has been and gone and it was super to see so many of you on the stand – and it was fun! There was a great buzz in the tent and excellent footfall with a good sprinkling of the younger generation.  We also sold lots of pieces; in fact it was probably our most successful LAPADA yet.

From the photograph above we sold the blue floral suite of sofa and chairs, the drum table, the pair of cabinets and the shibayama panel, so much so that we had to re-build the stand every day with Barry, our transporter, rushing up and down the M3 early every morning.

An intarsia roundel attributed to Gatti, Italian c 1870. £2,850 A Regency revolving  drum table, English, c1815. Sold A large ship’s barometer. English, c1910. SOLD

Other pieces include an intarsia roundel in the Renaissance revival style attributed to Giovanni Battista Gatti (1816-1889), a Regency revolving drum table in beautifully figured mahogany with four frieze drawers and an unusually large ship’s barometer from the early 20th century.
A George III walnut wing armchair, English, c1880. £8,800 A William IV mahogany revolving desk chair c1830. £3,850    A Victorian oak  library chair, English, c 1870. £2,600

Antiques Fairs which run for several days require hours on one’s feet.  Many exhibitors, including Charlie, feel it is bad form to sit on the stand but he is always kind enough to supply at least one very comfortable chair for me to sit on, a desk to write on and a piece of furniture for storing everything from wrapping materials to water, invoice books to pass out slips and of course shoes from high heels to flats (again for me).  Unfortunately at Palm Beach one year I left several pairs in a tall boy and was not re-united with them for 6 months when the container returned.  (It could have been worse – the piece could have been sold with them still inside! – Yes it has been done but normally only with stationery or board games.)

And a final footnote…..Chris Challis took photographs of these four feet for the website last week.  Can you spot them?  Answers in the next newsletter, which is also the anniversary of a very important year in my life.
Charlie is always at the Sloane Street shop mid-week so do ring him on 07768 877069.
