What's happened?
Sonos has reportedly acquired the Bluetooth audio startup T2 Software.
Why does it matter?
The company has been long rumoured to be working on a pair of headphones that would not only work out and about, but also instantly connect to your Sonos multi-room system that the company is famous for.
What's my take?
It makes a lot of sense for Sonos to move into the headphone space, especially given its heritage in the speaker space, but also because, well, most of us have a speaker now so it's not the boom market it once was.
And with Sonos keen to continue to grow the business, it has to look at other areas if it wants to continue to expand. The problem is that every company seems to make headphones these days, so it will have to make sure there's a strong enough differentiator if it wants to be seen as more than just another also-ran.
Connecting to your Sonos around the home could be just the ticket to make it stands out in what's a very crowded market.
