Dear <<First Name>>,

The days are getting longer and my heart got a little lighter on January 20, when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn into office. After the terrifying attack on our democracy only weeks earlier, it was heartening to see our institutions hold strong and our democratic principles prevail. Adelaide and I enjoyed watching the first female Vice President be sworn into office and Amanda Gorman recite her stirring poem. Especially when times are tough, these small moments of positivity and hope mean a lot.

Despite the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic, there certainly are some good things happening in our community right now. It's heartening to see the pace of vaccinations pick up. At the mass vaccinations events in recent weeks, I've talked to nurses, elderly folks and others who are feeling a little less fearful. I wish doses were coming to us more quickly, but the staff at Lane County Health and Human Services is doing a terrific job of distributing what they have. Don't forget to sign up on the county's COVID-19 vaccine preregistration website to receive updates on when the vaccine may be available to you.

I'm grateful that FEMA approved direct housing support for people affected by last year's Holiday Farm Fire. The rebuilding efforts are moving along and remain a top priority for me.

It was a pleasure to welcome Laurie Trieger to the Board of Commissioners last month, and to elect Joe Berney as the new chair and Pat Farr as the new vice-chair. As the year goes on, we plan to continue the good work we've started on increasing the availability of affordable housing, reducing the county's carbon footprint and supporting small businesses.

February is Black History Month. Even though our country is making progress in the fight to increase equity and inclusion for all -- evidenced by the swearing in of Vice President Harris last month -- we have a long way to go. This month is a great time to learn more about our country's history of racism and oppression and reflect on what we can do to stop it. I'll be doing that along with my other work to bring prosperity and opportunity to all our citizens.
Sincerely,

Your Support Always Helps
We just concluded one election, but the next one will come up fast. I have to begin running for reelection later this year. Your contribution will be a big help once it comes time to develop a platform, hire staff and start knocking on doors again. Thank you for your support!
