Hey y'all! My name is Joel and I am guest editing this edition of the Southern Startup Report. I am so grateful for all of the work Mallory has done on the newsletter to date. I have big shoes to fill, even temporarily. Without further ado...

Austin, TX has been on a roll. When I reviewed the news of the prior two weeks, I was surprised by the amount of capital flowing in to the city. The funding is across all industries from payments technology (AppBrilliance) to lifestyle services (Spruce). The capital of Texas is proving itself to be a popular place to start, and fund, new companies. Here is a nice Austin overview from CNBC.

What else? Oh, we have a new president! Check out this take, by Rhonda Abrams on how Joe Biden's presidency could affect entrepreneurship and small businesses.
