New Orleans Entrepreneur Week is right around the corner, which means so is our 4th annual Ada Lovelace Awards!

February 28 - March 13

New Orleans, LA - Spring is high season for tech and startup related events here in New Orleans. New Orleans Entrepreneur Week released their full schedule of events, to take place March 25-29, and the inaugural Crypto Current Conference will take place this Friday, March 15. The annual JEDCO Challenge is now seeking startups to compete for its $20K prize, while Women Techmakers & GDG New Orleans are hosting the 2019 International Women's Day Celebration, a women's tech conference, on March 23. (Of course, we'll also be hosting our own 4th annual Ada Lovelace Awards to celebrate women in tech on March 26.) In STEM education news, a local teacher recently started a STEM Lending Library to bridge the gap in resources at local schools, and local high school students are using 3-D printers to make prosthetics for children

Atlanta, GA - The local K-12 education tech startup TechPilot Labs was recently acquired, while Atlanta-based payments technology company InComm has acquired Linq3 Technologies, which is focused on the lottery industry. Local co-working hub Switchyards is looking to expand across Atlanta with “Neighborhood Clubs” and The Lola is seeking founding members for its women’s only co-working space, which is set to open this summer. USA Today recently profiled the wave of black entrepreneurs who are flocking to Atlanta to grow their startups. 

Austin, TX - ATX software company Digital Pharmacist Inc. was recently acquired for $125M, while Hypergiant announced it’s working on the first steps to creating an an interplanetary Internet. Early-stage VC firm ATX Seed Ventures recently closed its second fund at $32M, and Kansas City-based Firebrand Ventures has established an Austin office

Birmingham, AL - Six Alabama startups recently competed in front of a sold-out crowd at the Alabama Launchpad competition. VentorLux, which uses ultraviolet-C LED lights to sanitize air flowing through healthcare facilities’ HVAC system, won the $100K prize, while biotech company CerFlux took home $50K. 

Charleston, SC - More than 2,000 entrepreneurs, investors and executives are expected to gather next month for the 7th annual DIG SOUTH Tech Summit. The three-day event, held April 24-26, will cover topics from multiple tracks including Business Growth, Emerging Tech, Digital Marketing, FinTech–Blockchain–Investor, and Health Tech. The event concludes with a “Wild Pitch” competition. Meanwhile, Greenville Business Magazine recently offered a statewide look at the state’s thriving tech incubators

Dallas, TX - The UT Dallas Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship has launched a partnership with Capital Factory. The grand opening launch of their new incubator is planned to take place during Dallas Startup Week (April 1-5). A new study by Accenture puts Dallas ahead of the pack when it comes to emerging technology adoption. 

Durham, NC - Biotech firm Precision BioSciences recently filed to raise $100 million in IPO. According to a new study, both the Durham-Chapel Hill and Raleigh areas rank among the top 15 metro areas for STEM employment in the nation, with more than 10% of the local labor force consisting of high-tech workers. NC IDEA recently announced the 5 local startups that have been selected for $5,000 grants to help them set up crowdfunding campaigns: Black Mountain Ciderworks, Freeman Capital, LivWell Nutrition, Optimal Solar, and Vanmile

Nashville, TN - Another giant tech company is looking to set up shop in Music City: Oracle is reportedly seeking about 800,000 square feet of office space in Nashville for its sales and marketing teams. Nashville-based cybersecurity firm Uniguest has acquired Touchtown, a tech provider that specializes in senior living community engagement.

Tampa, FL - Tampa-based cybersecurity company KnowBe4 is near the brink of unicorn status, and Tampa Bay Inno recently hosted their first State of Innovation Event to discuss the local entrepreneurial scene. Miami-based shipping logistics software startup Octopi was recently acquired, while students from Florida’s Stetson University won $33,500 at two different student entrepreneur pitch competitions recently. Florida-based StartUp Nation Ventures is launching a $25 million venture fund to support Israeli companies’ growth and expansion in choosing Florida as their entry point into the United States and Latin America.
