Welcome to Ensemble Q news!

We are very excited to be so close to the first series concert for 2018, on Saturday 28 April at 7.30pm.

The concert features a new work by Paul Dean entitled Concerto for Cello and Wind Quintet, which was completed this weekend and is now in the hands of our incredible Ensemble Q players. This unique work features the cello set amongst 5 solo wind players, creating an exciting and unusual soundscape. It is a lyrical, rhythmically and emotionally complex work in 3 movements and will be a very exciting addition to the concert.
Also on the program are three favourites - Ravel's La Mere L'oye (Mother Goose Suite) in an arrangement for chamber ensemble, Glazounov's achingly beautiful Reverie Orientale for clarinet and string quartet, and the inimitable Mendelssohn Piano Trio in D minor.
Joining us is Dale Barltrop, concertmaster of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and lead violinist in the Australian String Quartet.

Tickets range from $25 - $45 and the concert is at Queensland Conservatorium Theatre, Grey St Southbank.
Convenient parking is available at the Cultural Centre Carpark for $16, or ask your uber/cab driver to drop you at the Wheel of Brisbane. It's also a very short walk from the Southbank citycat stop, the South Brisbane railway station and the cultural centre bus station. The Conservatorium Theatre is off the main Conservatorium foyer, and there is a lift for easy access from ground level.

Ensemble Q performed at the Ukaria Cultural Centre in Adelaide on March 25 to a sold out hall and enthusiastic audience. Ukaria is an incredible purpose built venue in the Adelaide Hills, and present the best Australian and International musicians in a year round program of chamber music concerts. We are delighted to have been invited to perform there, and excited to return in 2019!
Our mentorship program is unique and stronger than ever!
One of our most successful elements is the Ensemble Q mentorship program, proudly sponsored by Philip Bacon Galleries. In each concert, one or more exceptional young musicians is invited to join the ensemble in and play alongside the professional musicians. This has given the mentees invaluable opportunities and links that help them establish careers in chamber music nationally and internationally.
In concert one, we welcome back violist Nathan Greentree (pictured) from Sydney, as well as ex-Australian National Academy of Music flautist David Shaw and double bassist Bryn Keane, from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
Read what our 2017 mentees said after their experiences, and see why we're so excited about the program here.

Coming up on Sunday April 8, members of Ensemble Q will be performing at the Clarence Valley Chamber Music Festival in Grafton. Daniel de Borah, Trish O'Brien, Paul Dean and guest violinist Caroline Hopson will be performing a wonderful program of Beethoven, Schumann, Handel-Halvorsen and Mendelssohn.
