Annual Toy Run Exceeds Expectations.

Motorcycle riders from all over the Four Corners gathered together for the 25th Annual Toy Run to donate toys to three local charities for children in need.

The main story

With 98 motorcycles and over 240 people attending, it was a record-breaking day for the annual run organized by the Iron Horse H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) Chapter.  No doubt the weather played a big part in rider participation with blue skies and clear roads. In years past, snow and ice-covered streets deterred many from riding.

The day began with participants meeting at Durango Harley-Davidson for coffee and muffins, a little shopping, and fellowship. Around 11:00 bikers headed to their motorcycles loaded with huge stuffed animals and toys of all kinds ready to be transferred to their destination at the local Durango VFW Hall.  What a sight to see with Santa leading the pack on his own Harley-Davidson!

Not Your Typical Bike Luggage

Here is just one example of a bike ready to make the trip downtown to provide a toy for a local child who may otherwise not receive any gifts this Christmas.

Spreading Joy This Holiday Season

With more toys than the camera lens could capture, three local charities will be able to provide presents for kids this Christmas.  Project Merry Christmas, Volunteers of America, and the Mercy Foundation For Kids In Need are the three benefitting organizations.

A Silent Auction and Raffle

Once riders arrived at the VFW Hall, they were met with tables full of silent auction items donated by local businesses, and the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for several prizes.  Not only did they break records with toy donations, but also raised more money for local charities than any other year!
