Central Park Remediation
Following the flooding that took place at the end of December, Central Park was closed to the public, and those sheltering in the park were relocated to the Royal Athletic Park parking lot. Fencing was installed on January 4, 2021 and the Parks Department is currently remediating the park. They are using a phased approach to the remediation and are currently working towards opening the playground, outdoor gym, basketball court, and tennis courts with a goal of reopening these amenities by January 31, 2021.

Removing Central Park from the list of approved parks for sheltering
At the January 21, 2021 Committee of the Whole, Mayor and Council received a report from Thomas Soulliere (Parks Department) recommending that Central Park be removed from the list of parks where sheltering is permitted. After some discussion, Council decided to temporarily ban sheltering in Central Park and to revisit this topic on March 4, 2021. The NPNA recommends that Central Park be removed from the list of parks where sheltering is permitted.

You can watch the discussion from the livestream of the meeting here (start at 30:18).

Local Area Plan: Participate in the Virtual Open House

Do you live, spend time in or care about the future of Fernwood, North Park and Hillside-Quadra? During December and January, the City of Victoria will be hosting an online conversation and open house to present ideas and options that guide growth and change in your community over the next 10 to 20 years. Visit or contact us for print materials.
The City wants to hear from you! It’s important that the City hears from diverse voices including renters, youth, families with young children, and people of diverse backgrounds, ages and incomes who make our community.
Earlier in the year, you told us what’s important…
The City has heard opportunities, concerns and big ideas from you and your neighbours. This spring, 1,000 community members provided feedback about what's important and should guide growth over the next 20 years in and around Quadra, North Park, and Fernwood.
…now help us plan a future that includes everyone
This plan is about working with the community to bring more housing choice, better transportation options, and improved public spaces for people of different incomes, household types, ages and lifestyles.

Take the surveys, ask questions, watch videos and contribute your thoughts on North Park's Local Area Plan here.
