North Park's Monthly Pop-Up Farmer's Market is happening today!

It's almost time for another NPNA Pop-Up Market!

Join us today, Friday, October 16 from 4:30-6:30pm for the North Park's monthly pop-up Farmer's Market. We are excited to have the following confirmed vendors:

Flowerbike.ca - fresh cut flowers
Ed's Soup Shack + - quality made soup mixes with no added salt, sugar, or MSG
MADHOUSE.love- beautiful baked goods that are 100% Vegan, and free of salt, oil, gluten and refined sugar
Songhees Events & Catering - fresh bannock and produce!
+ one yet to be determined surprise vendor (due to a cancellation)

Location: St John the Divine parking lot at 1611 Quadra St.

Please follow the entrance and exit signage, sanitize your hands upon arrival at the market, and wear a mask if you are able. Masks will be available if you do not have your own.
 
North Park Community Survey
Open for responses October 2 - 31, 2020

Change is coming to North Park. The North Park Neighbourhood Association wants to know what you think of the neighbourhood and how you think it should look as we move into the future.

We want to hear from renters and homeowners, employers and employees, volunteers and business owners, about what this change should look like.

The results of this survey will help the NPNA advocate for what’s important to you and guide land use decisions as new developments are proposed for the neighbourhood.

The community survey will take 10-20 minutes to complete. Your time is valuable, and we appreciate you completing the survey. At the end of the survey you can add your email address to be entered into a draw to win one of four $50 gift certificates to a North Park business.

Communication, Collaboration, and Coordination

Over the past few weeks, we have heard from several community members that they would like more communication about meetings and, specifically updates on sheltering in parks. We hear you. Thank you for letting us know. 

Here are a couple of updates. You can find all of this information on the NPNA's website

NPNA October public meeting: Tuesday, October 6, 2020, 6-8pm, Royal Athletic Park Shannon Perkins, Director of Bylaw, meeting update: Tuesday, October 14
  • Each week, the NPNA meets with Shannon Perkins to get an update on the status of bringing the new and existing bylaws into compliance at Central Park. Here is the update from our meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14 
    • movement is slowly happening to other parks
    • Central Park is Bylaw’s priority at this time
    • Pink and White tags were placed on tents beginning October 10, 2020.
      • Pink tags: structures that appear to be for storage/abandoned/ or generally not used for sheltering.
      • White tags: violation of bylaw locations
    • in both cases, the tags stay on for 72 hours before anything is impounded.
    • in both cases, campers are encouraged to speak with bylaw officers to arrive at a solution that can work for both parties
    • no one is moved or asked to move in the rain
    • maps have been finished and have been posted in 6 parks, and the rest will be completed and installed this week
    • Current needs in the park are: waterproof tarps, waterproof totes, and waterproof ground sheets. Shannon is going to try to line up a storage space for the NPNA so that we can purchase waterproof totes, groundsheets, and tarps for service providers and Bylaw to distribute as needed (Red Cross funding)
  • Updates from these weekly updates will be shared on the sheltering in parks webpage. 
Weekly Meetings in Central Park
  • Central Park Healing Circle, Wednesdays @ 4pm between the baseball diamonds. Led by Rose Henry. Open to all
  • Sheltering in Parks ad-hoc working group, Thursdays @ 4pm in RAP.  Led by the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness, attended by service providers, occasional City staff, NPNA, housed and unhoused residents. Open to all.
Next NPNA Public Meeting:
 Monday, November 3, 2020, 6-8pm, Location TBD. 

still accepting new households: Weekly Grocery Hamper Program! 

The NPNA is putting together free, weekly grocery hampers made up of produce, bread, dairy, some non-perishable items and eggs. These are sorted and delivered by volunteers on Thursdays between 12-3pm. If you live in North Park, and would benefit from a hamper, please contact executivedirector@npna.ca.
