What's new in the BCWBS Office

Save The Date - June 23rd at 7:00pm
 will be hosting a Zoom information meeting on our Return to Sport.  We know there is an abundance of information being shared by a variety of sources, including viaSport, the BC Government and other PSO's, so we thought it was helpful to host a session to answer some questions our members might have.  We encourage all of our members, athletes, parents, regions and clubs to join us.  Please email Nadine to confirm your attendance.

Looking for a new book?  Check out Lucy Tries Basketball.  So great to have inspiring girls inspiring others, and the author is sharing Lucy's story to kids everywhere.

June is normally when we would host a Canada Games Development Camp, to start off the new cycle going into the 2023 Canada Winter Games.  Usually at this camp we have some awesome guest coaches, but lately we have been doing things a bit differently, in an online kind-of way.  Big shout out to mentor and coach Mike "Frog" Frogley, for joining in to share some fun stories, words of wisdom and some tips on how to start the next 4 years of training off in the right direction.  Let's take this motivation and use it to be the best Team BC we can be!

Canadian Women in Sport have some upcoming webinars that look to help create ways to keep Girls and Women engages in sport.  Don't miss the next one, June 16 @ 11am - Get in the Game, A Rally for Canadian Girls in sport.

The Disabled Sailing Association will be starting their 2020 summer season in July.  Registration opens June 19th at 9am. Call them to book your sailing or for more information, contact the DSA Summer Office  (July 2, 2020 – August 29, 2020).  The Jericho Sailing Centre is located at 1300 Discovery Street, Vancouver, BC V6R 4K5  Phone: 604-222-3003    Email:  

Incase you missed the annoucement last week, the BC Government recently created a ministerial order that protects amateur sport organizations, their employees and volunteers from liability.   Click to read more.  We will also discuss this during our information session June 23, as per above.

You've got a Teammate in Me Challenge- Deadline extended to June 20th

Thank you to everyone who has submitted their clips so far....still looking for more!  

We are planning to create our own challenge from BC-CWBL Teams, regions, clubs,  and all of our members..."You've got a Teammate in Me Challenge"  Grab your basketball and team jersey, jump into your sports chair, get the camera rolling and join this Long Distance Passing Challenge.  

Film and submit 3 -2-3 second, mp4 videos, (1) of you with the ball (upclose), then (2) a clip of you passing the ball to your left (3) a clip of you receiving the ball from the right.  All clips can be sent to

Be as creative as you want when it comes to your style of pass and reception....

Last week to ger your entry in. Deadline to receive these clips is June 20.

With our in-person wheelchair basketball programming still off in the future, there have been many requests from our members on how they can keep active, both-on-court and off-court.  Here is this week's Top 3.

  1. Check out the great resources in the Ability Toolkit. The Ability Toolkit was developed to help parents and guardians support their child or teen with a disability meet the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth.
  2. Spring is a good time to get outside.  How much fun do these Active for Life outdoor activities look ???
  3. Looking for some new recipe ideas that are healthy and Coach approved?  Check out these recipes out from the Coaching Association of Canada.

Did you miss one of the letters from our X-Tails Colouring Contest?
We shared the letters "B", "D", "H", "I" "M", "N", R" and "T" over the past few weeks.  You can find all of these letters on our facebook page.  There is still time to colour -submit and be entered to win some great prizes!
