What's new in the BCWBS Office

TONIGHT - June 23rd at 7:00pm
BCWBS
will be hosting a Zoom information meeting on our Back to Basketball Plan.  We know there is an abundance of information being shared by a variety of sources, including viaSport, the BC Government and other PSO's, so we thought it would be helpful to host a session to answer some questions our members might have. We encourage any of our athletes, parents, regions and clubs to join us.  If you would still like to join but have not yet RSVP'd, please email Nadine to confirm your attendance. During this information session we will be reviewing  and highlighting key areas of the WBC/Canada Basketball Back to Basketball plan, see link below.

Wheelchair Basketball Canada and Canada Basketball recently released Back to Basketball, Return to Sport Guidelines.  As communities across Canada begin to return to sports, this document establishes requirements to create a safe environment to protect players, families, and communities, while allowing for the resumption of training and participation in basketball related activities.

The 2020 ParticipACTION Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth is the most comprehensive assessment of child and youth physical activity in Canada. The Report Card synthesizes data from multiple sources, including the best available peer-reviewed research, to assign evidence-informed grades across 14 indicators. The Report Card has been replicated in over 50 cities, provinces and countries, where it has served as a blueprint for collecting and sharing knowledge about the physical activity of young people around the world. Spinal Cord Injury BC has daily virtual programs.  Something to interest everyone; from Trivia, to crafts, to movie nights and amazing work-out sessions.  Click to see this week's schedule.

Activities & Resouces

With our in-person wheelchair basketball programming still off in the future, there have been many requests from our members on how they can keep active, both-on-court and off-court.  Here is this week's Top 3.

  1. From Coast to Coast to Coast, Canadian Tire Jumpstart has some amazing resources and links to Play from Home.  Choose from a variety of activities for all ages and abilities.

  2. Cosmic Kids has created some pretty fun yoga videos & activities you can do from home.  Don't forget to also check out some of their "zen" mindfulness videos too as we all tend to get busy and forget that mindfulness is part of an active and healthy lifestyle.

  3. Sport for Life has developed a series of short videos called Physical Literacy  at Home that help support parents and guardians and kids to develop physical literacy at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
