Why La Paz?  ...Miriam and Robin's Story

There is a saying here in La Paz, “Visit just once, and a part of your soul stays behind to call you back forever.”  We arrived in Mexico looking for a place to call home. We were dazzled by the possibilities, spoiled for choice. We explored colonial cities and mainland beaches, small farming communities and artsy pueblos. Everywhere, we were enthralled by the diversity of the Mexican landscape, humbled by the generosity of the people, and really challenged to find the home of our hearts. All these things were tempting but it was La Paz that kept calling us back.

Introducing the extremely happy new owners of a lovely home in Haciendas Palo Verde...

Wayne and Michelle were originally thinking of buying a lot and building, but decided to forego the waiting and opted for a completely furnished home in this popular gated community in El Centenario.  They just couldn’t wait to swim in the pool and sit on the patio in the evenings with a glass of wine watching the lights twinkle on across the Bay in La Paz.  Life is good here…why wait?  Let us show you other homes and options in and around Haciendas Palo Verde.

EVERYONE LOVES MARGARITAS and there are many recipes around.
But a real Mexican margarita is simplicity itself.
No syrupy sugary additions, cheap alcohol or soda…and a blender is not necessary.

Here is the recipe for the best margarita ever, taught to Miriam and Robin by a bartender in San Quintin. He invited them behind his bar to learn hands on.  They were actually slow learners that night…had to make them several times!

1 1/2 shots of GOOD tequilayou can’t make a good margarita with bad tequila.
2/3 (that’s two thirds, not 2 or 3!) shot of Controy, the Mexican version of orange liqueur.  No substitutes if you want the most authentic flavour.
Juice of 1 1/2 small limes.  Here they are known as limones, but up north they are Key limes.
Plenty of ice

The bartender said, “Sal, no! Licuadora, no!"    …no salt! no blender!
Try it and tell us what you think…not for the faint of heart!

The Unique Tiendas of La Paz and El Centenario
The Mexican tienda (shop, store) is a remarkable place. You just never know what you'll discover inside.  We thought you'd like to know more about them, so check out our website under Photos/Stories to read more.

LA PARCELA is the first tienda we are showcasing in our ongoing feature of unique local shopping places. Here you will find Cristhian Peña Cobarruvias, a proud purveyor of fine spices, specialty food items and local organics.  Where else could you find toasted chocolate nibs, Portugese piri-piri, smoked octopus, vanilla beans from Veracruz and seasoned grasshoppers?  READ MORE
