<<First Name>>,
We are celebrating Zora Neale Hurston all week long!
Friday, January 7th marks the 131st birthday of our namesake!

The legacy of Zora Neale Hurston lives on within each and everyone of us in this community.
Born in Notasulga, Alabama to a carpenter and school teacher, Zora was one of eight children. She presented a fiery intellect and radiant spirit. From a young age, her mother encouraged her and her siblings to "jump at de sun" and so she did.
She was a woman that wore many hats including author, anthropologist, filmmaker, playwriter and many more. Despite her brilliance, much of her work went unseen and poorly compensated for. She passed on in January 1960 at the age of 69. She was buried in an unmarked grave until 1973.
This herstory is important because it is a testament to how many extraordinary women of color go unsung due to lack of access, visibility, and community.
This is why we do what we do!
Not only do women of color deserve this space, but the world deserves to hear, to see, and experience the phenomenal contributions of women of color. Not after we pass on, not when our work has collected dust, but right here and right now.

Amplifying the voices and experiences of women of color is the transformative work that will change all of our lives for the better. Women of color thrive with support and resources, so this is our call out to you:
We deeply appreciate your continued support and we hope you will celebrate Zora Neale Hurston and all the women of color in your lives as hard as we will this week!
