Departmental Scholarships Applications Available

 

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences wants to give students some money!! To apply for the scholarships please go the EES office and pick up an application from the front desk or the major's room. 

Only members of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences are eligible for the scholarships. We are sorry, but members of the Environmental Sciences Program are not eligible. 

Applications are due by Friday, March 18, 2022 at 4:00 pm.
Applications may be either dropped off at the Front Desk or emailed to Dr. Matyjasik (mmatyjasik@weber.edu).

Geoscience and Society Lectures

 

The popular Geoscience and Society lectures are back! Join us every Friday for an amazing line up of speakers presenting on interesting and important topics.

Dr. Wei Zhang, USU Assistant Professor, Plant, Soils & Climate.  He will be speaking on "Climate Change Forecast for Utah".

Scholarship

Wyoming Dinosaur Center Summer 2022 Internship Program.  This unique internship allows students an opportunity to dig dinosaur bones in several active dinosaur quarries.  You will be trained on the proper techniques of excavation, mapping, and preparation. You will also be working with the public through many digging programs and giving tours.

12-week, 8-week, and 6-week sesions available with flexible scheduing. Research projects are also available.

Requirements;
Have an interest in Dinosaurs
Be at least 21 years old.
Valid drivers license for minimum of 2 years
Weekly Stipend
Housing Provided

Campus Protocols
  • Symptomatic testing and vaccination availability varies. Check the testing and safety and the vaccines pages for times, days and locations. Testing locations are also available at the Utah coronavirus website. 
  • All individuals need to assess themselves for symptoms of illness before coming to campus and to stay home if they are symptomatic. Visit the WSU COVID-19 website for more information.
  • Face coverings are strongly recommended while on campus.
    • A limited-supply of additional masks will be available during class. Please be respectful and supportive of your fellow Wildcats.
  • Students needing accommodations should contact Disability Services to discuss your specific situation.
  • For the latest information about campus support service availability, please visit the Keeping Connected website.
Virus Mitigation Protocols
  • Weber State strongly encourages all university faculty and staff to be vaccinated. A COVID-19 vaccination is required for all students, except for concurrent enrollment students and students who qualify for an exemption, for the 2022 spring semester. See the vaccines page for times, days and locations and more information.
  • If you test positive for the coronavirus:
  • If you suspect you have contracted COVID-19 by having symptoms:
    • Immediately go home (unless you are already at home) and self-isolate.
    • Make an appointment to get tested.
    • Complete the self-report form.
    • If not recommended to be tested or if your test is negative, you should follow the guidance provided by your healthcare provider before returning to campus.
  • Engage in good general hygiene practices.
The EES Department also strongly encourages that all students wear masks while in the classroom.

Mineral of the Week - Flourite

Fluorite is a colorful mineral that is found  all around the world. While named for its use as a flux ('fluere' means to flow), the element fluorine and fluorescence were both  named after this mineral. To learn more about fluorite and its many uses, please click here.
