Greetings from The Haid!

How we miss our patrons, actors, technicians, students - all those who make The Abbey Players experience a vibrant and vital part of the greater metrolina arts community! We hope this message finds you well, safe, and able to find some joy in the midst of a lot of uncertainty.

What a year 2020 has been so far! Plans and daily living have had to be put on hold or otherwise significantly changed. While the future is still to be determined, theatre folk, in particular, know how to improvise and bring a little levity to our lives. Abbey Player Cadie Pittman, whom you've seen in Wait Until Dark, Much Ado About Nothing, VerityThe Lark, and many others, was accepted into two prestigious programs to further her acting studies this fall, and just like many across the country and globe, her plans were changed dramatically (no pun intended!) She put the following montage together, because sometimes laughter truly is the best medicine. Hope it brings a smile to your face as it has for many of us!
Looking ahead. . .

As you know, a lot of advanced planning is required to successfully present a full season of productions. Our planning for 2020-21 began last season, and right now we are looking at all options in light of the current COVID-19 guidelines and safety measures. With all of the current concerns, we are making adjustments to our hopeful upcoming season almost every day.

Pending the Governor's decision regarding moving to North Carolina to Phase III, we wanted to get your input about your comfort in returning to attending Abbey Players' productions. We're making every effort to ensure everyone's safety, and for the sake of our student's academic and cultural needs The Abbey Players must go on. We're mindful however that many of our patrons may fall into the higher risk category for the virus. The safety of all of our patrons is our top priority.

What we really need to hear is whether our audiences are interested and comfortable returning to The Haid in the near future. After reading the suggested guidelines and protocols, please complete the accompanying survey and let us know your thoughts about attending Abbey Players performances beginning mid-September.

COVID-19 protocol at public performances may include:
  • Required reservations
  • Mandatory masks
  • Temperature checks at door
  • Hand sanitizer for patrons
  • Touchless ticketing / Box Office check-in
  • Socially-distanced seating
  • Audience reduced to 25%; no more than 40 patrons per performance; two patrons per row
  • Separate, designated performances for off-campus patrons and on-campus patrons
Please tap / click on the survey image below and let us know your thoughts.

Please email AbbeyPlayers@bac.edu, and let us know of any additional thoughts or concerns. You can also reach our Marketing Director, Margaret Smith, directly at MargaretSmith@bac.edu.
