February News from Coos Sand 'N Sea Quilters

Note From our President

Does Coos Sand 'n Sea have a future?  Each year it gets more difficult to find volunteers to do the things we do.  Do you feel unneeded, have a poor past experience, don't feel qualified, too much commitment or a fear of commitment?  These are all valid concerns but we need to have a discussion and figure out our path.

Positive note, we have a raffle quilt top done.  It might be a sandwich by our meeting.  I look forward to the reveal. Thank you Sherry Church & Shirley Hammar for assisting Linda and I with the construction.  Thank you Linda for allowing me to interrupt your life and studio for sew many hours.

Not sure what you are all up to but I'm drowning in scrappy quilts.  Since my work shop with Bonnie Hunter I have started 3 more scrappy quilts.  That make 5 in progress since the first part of December.  Just like she say's the scrap just keep growing.  My UFO's are at the bottom of the pile again, DANG.  Happy Quilting my friends.

Your President,
Melinda Andrews

From our Vice President:

Wow, January sure flew by quickly. Hope all are doing well and staying away from this nasty flu bug going around.  Come one come all to the February meeting for an exciting program.

Ever sit in your sewing room, looking at some of your accumulations and leftovers like fabric and small pieces of batting and wonder "What can I do with this besides throwing it away". Linda Kruusi Mason will present on "From Trash to Treasures".   Let's see what fun things we can create.

In March, we will have Shirley Hammer presenting a program on "Repurpose, Reuse, Reduce".  In April, we will have Lawry Thorn from the Stitching Post in Sisters Oregon, presenting a lecture and workshop, more to come when finalized.

Monthly Quote: "Ask not what your fabric can do for you, but what you can do for your fabric".

Happy Quilting

Block of the Month

I hope you enjoyed making Joan Kendrick’s red/purple/pink block. I sure did! I will be out of town so won’t get to see them all put up.  Bev Kauffman will handle the BOM duties.
Ruthe Garagon will present her block in February. I’m sure it will be a good one.
If you’re interested in handling the Block of the Month, please get in touch with me for details. I will be stepping down at the end of the year. It’s a pretty well-oiled machine by now with the leader’s tasks kept to a minimum. Talk to me!!

Thanks to the generosity of our members, the CASA project has been a huge success. Seven more quilts have been donated since the January meeting bringing the total to 39 quilts that have been given to CASA for foster children in our community. Hugs and thank you.
