Quilt Show News:

Quilt Show Boutique
Again this year there will be a Quilt Guild Member’s Boutique at the Quilt Show.  It’s going to operate a  little different this year to afford more members an opportunity to sell their homemade quilt/fabric related items.  This year you can put your homemade items for sale in the boutique without having to take a half table or volunteer in the booth.  You can put in as little as one item, or you can put in multiple items for sale, and they will be arranged and sold for you in the Boutique area (volunteers will be welcome, but not a requirement of selling your items).  The items the Boutique would like to have are your quilts, wall hangings, bags, table runners, holiday ornaments, Christmas stockings, tree skirts, stuffed fabric animals (no buttons or beads unless clearly marked/tagged that it is not a toy), baby blankets, baby bibs, burp cloth,  fiber art, wool art items, felted items, hats, aprons, potholders, lap quilts, cosmetic bags, laptop case, pin cushion, machine covers,  accessories, embellishments, and other homemade fabric/fiber items.  If your items sells, there will be a 10% fee that goes to the Guild, so keep that in mind when you price your items.  You can bring your items to the Quilt Show on Friday, September 14th during the quilt check-in time.  There will be price tags available at the June Guild Meeting for you to use.  Please have your items priced prior to checking them into the quilt show on Friday.  This is our opportunity to show the community our talents and products that we make, as well as make a little money for our members.  We hope you participate and enjoy the new Boutique format.

If you have questions, or want additional information contact the Boutique Chairperson, Carol Pomes, at 541-499-2922, or email cpomes@earthlink.net.  Also, email her if you would like to  receive your paperwork via email, or copies will be also be available at the June Quilt Guild Meeting.

Quilt show meeting date for June will be published in Newsflash when announced.

Hospitality Report from Carol Todd

June Hostesses:

Potluck time!  That means we all lend a hand to set up and clean up afterward - it will only take a few minutes if we all pitch in!  Bring a dish to share and we will have a fun time socializing!

SARA – Ruthe Garagnon

Being awarded SARA by my peers has been very special to me. I have enjoyed being a member of Coos Sand ‘n Sea and have tried to bring a positive, enthusiastic approach to the committees served. Kate Payne reminded me last June that her Mother, Rolene, had been the first SARA and she held the bar very high. I promised Kate that I would do my best to uphold that challenge. It will be an honor for me to pass the tiara to the very deserving 2018-19 recipient at the June potluck. Thank you for the special year. Ruthe

Block of the Month

Greetings everyone. Happy soon to be summer time. And you know what that means—finishing up all your UFOs. And that includes your block of the month projects. If you won blocks this past guild year, make them into a completed project and share in September. If you can’t make the September meeting, I’ll need to see your project BEFORE the meeting.
Your name will go into the completed projects drawing.

You can also be entered by sharing a completed project using the 9 patterns in fabric of your choice.

At the end of the meeting I’ll draw the name of the winner of a $100 quilt shop gift card.
Bring your purple flower block to the June meeting, too. For each block you turn in your name will join all the others who made blocks this year for a $100 quilt shop drawing. That drawing will be held at the June meeting. You need not be present to win.
Oh, the excitement!!

Bring this finished block to the meeting:

June Purple Flower Block

I am excited to do the Quilt Block of the month for 2018/2019!  I have plans that will be fun for both our beginning quilters and our more experienced quilters, and am looking forward to a great year!  For this year I am going to be designing all the blocks myself, but I'm going to need two helpers each month to present the blocks, one beginner, one more experienced - I'll bring a sign up sheet to the June meeting to get started.   I plan on keeping the prize giveaways that Delaine has been doing, so make sure you sign up to present a block for me!

Instead of a giving you a specific block pattern to work on over the summer, I'd like to invite you to make some 12 1/2 inch blocks in Red, White and Blue over the next few months.  Bring them to the September meeting and we will collect them to sew together into lap quilts and donate to a local veteran's group - this would be a fun way to reduce our stashes and give back to our community.  Many of the quilt blocks from the previous year would work well for this project - have fun with this and we'll see how many quilts we can make with the blocks!
