Waikanae Boating Club E-News

28th July 2021
Mid-Winter Swim

The weather gods were certainly on our side again as 30 people took the polar plunge at Waikanae Boating Club's mid winter swim on Sunday. The community event drew a good crowd too with over 100 people coming down to support.

It wasn't just about the kids, adults of all ages joined in including a couple of crazy outfits.

"WBC was super proud to support this community event, the gold coin donations raised for Coast Guard .who all play a part in keeping our coast safe while we are having fun out on the water."

All in all it was a great morning with well deserved hot milos and sausages being dished up after the swim.

I would like to thank and acknowledge the support of the Waikanae boating club, Waikanae surf club, Coastguard Waikanae, Waikanae Fire brigade and all our local community who came down to watch, cheer on and swim in this event.

Reminder to all Tractor users

Your new tag for your trailer will have a NUMBER on it relative to you and your boat.
It is important that this tag be attached to your trailer preferably near the winch

WE INTEND TO POLICE WHO IS USING THE TRACTORS TO SAFE GUARD THE LEGITIMATE USERS
THE POLICY NOW IS - NO TAG NO TRACTOR

There have been quite a few unauthorized boaties using the tractors at times including non-members and others who have not paid for their tractor license, including others who have not been through the tractor training. We ask that you all check that fellow boaties have these tags attached.
If you are washing the tractors down at the end of the day you can hose the inside wheel hubs and the body of the tractor,  but try not to get any water in the alternators (top front right on the tractors)
Please remember to turn the tractor key off properly and always put the key back in the lock box and close.

Happy winter boating

If you don't support the Govt's proposal to increase commercial snapper quotas along the Kapiti Coast, please take a couple of minutes to click on the link below and make a submission to Fisheries NZ. The form is prepopulated and literally takes a minute to fill out but it could make a huge difference if enough people do so share with your friends and family.

A massive increase in bottom trawling could jeopardise the recovery of snapper, and put other species at risk. Associated species include red gurnard, trevally, john dory and tarakihi - species whose population sizes are "unknown" and thought to be declining.
Trawling damages marine environments and biodiversity. Watch an animated video on the sad history of bottom trawling in SNA 8.
