Thank you for a Successful Virtual Auction!

The Hayhurst 2020 Virtual Auction came to a close this week. We are so grateful to everyone who made it a success. Together, we raised nearly $8,000 for the programs our community relies on!

A special shout-out to the volunteers who pulled this together - first in the spring and then just now: Mary Moerlins, Megan Mudrick, Julie Kapp, Julie Gumski, Orit Ofri, Kim Hennessy, Erin Cleary, Alie Cleary, Nicole Lauzon, Allyson Plein, Sarah Pitzman, Debra Hornbecker, and Christy Splitt. We also want to once more than our sponsors, Alpenrose Dairy, NW Strategies, and now Union Bank, as well as our partner for the benefit dinner, Grand Cru Catering.

The team is working on making contact deliveries of auction prizes this week, and then we will get to work planning for a similar event in the spring. We have lots more great items to auction off for life after COVID!

If you are interested in helping, brainstorming, or planning events in some way and would like to be apart of this community building community please reach out to Britney Small.

There will be more information and details to come to those interested.

Working Towards Anti Racism as a Family Parent Nights On Dec 9 (tonight!) and Feb 9

The Jackson and Gray Middle School PTAs welcome you to participate in two special parent nights, hosted by the Anti Defamation League Education Director, Scotland Nash EdD, for a workshop series for families and communities to reflect on bias, engagement, and communication.

Learn about the manifestation of bias, reflect on life experiences, consider the lenses that we bring to difficult conversations, and how understanding bias supports building a connection. In this workshop, we will understand how it is possible to challenge bias, prejudicial thinking, and attitudes in ourselves. Through this “unlearning” of bias and the conscious effort it takes, that will support building allyship

Current issues provide a great opportunity to engage others in rich conversation, share important values, encourage a deeper understanding of the news, and disrupt bias and prejudice.

Hayhurst Library Curbside Checkout Begins December 9th

Great News!  The district has cleared us to begin the Let’s Get Reading Program!

We are very excited that Hayhurst families can pick up bags of library books from the school. We will start with families with last names starting with M-Z on 12/9 followed by families with last names starting with A-L on 12/16. Here’s everything you need to know:

When: Wednesdays 2pm-4pm. 12/9 - Last names M-Z; 12/16 - Last names A-L

Where: Front door of Hayhurst.

What: A bag of 7-10 library books for your child’s reading level.

How: Pull up to the front door of the school (the driveway will be open at both ends. One way drive-thru -- look for “Enter” and “Exit” signs). One person comes up to the table and tells Ms. Jones the names of the student(s) you are picking up books for and their teacher’s name. PLEASE WEAR A MASK!

Ms. Jones will give you a bag(s) of library books and record the bag number under your child’s name to take home.

What if we still have last year’s books from the Hayhurst Library? Please return them when you pick up a bag of books so we check them out for other students, but if you forget them or can’t find them all, that’s OK! You can still get a bag of books.

Can I request specific books or types of books for my child? At this time we are unable to accommodate special requests. Each bag will contain a mix of fiction and non-fiction and we hope your child will find some old favorites or discover new ones.

For other questions please see the Let’s Get Reading section of the Hayhurst Library website:
