June Issue #34.2

The Thanet St Planet

What's happening at the ILSC and around London

What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.

Refugee Week

Refugee Week is a UK-wide festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees. Through a programme of arts, cultural and educational events alongside media and creative campaigns, Refugee Week brings about positive encounters between communities, helping them to connect and learn from each other, and promoting a culture of welcome. See what's on and see what everyday actions we can all do to stand with refugees and make new connections in our communities. The Giant Dolls house is pretty amazing!

A different kind of ILSC?

If you weren't able to join us over this past week to contribute your thoughts about opportunities for a new kind of ILSC (with the chaplaincy to continue working in Bloomsbury and creating a 'community centre' for students studying in London), you can still contribute to the discussion using the questionnaire link below.

Month of June

ILSC Book Club

This month we're reading The Incredible Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera which 'tells the story of a young woman in love with a man torn between his love for her and his incorrigible womanizing and one of his mistresses and her humbly faithful lover. This magnificent novel juxtaposes geographically distant places, brilliant and playful reflections, and a variety of styles, to take its place as perhaps the major achievement of one of the world’s truly great writers.'
We'll meet on the first Tuesday in July to share our impressions of the book!

Looking for something?

Feeling a bit bored? Had to cancel that summer trip? Missing the ability to go travelling - when not get 'lost' in one of these travel movies
Or why not try a Treasure Hunt around London?
Or if you miss the Jazz club scene, East London's Kansas Smitty's has set up a Virtual Bar (and I can personally attest to the quality of the music).

Short-Films

This is a funny short film that is sure to make you laugh out loud.
Even my mom laughed at this (but she laughs at everything...).
