International Day of Friendship

Next Thursday is Friendship Day! Apparently this is a big holiday in Paraguay (as Oscar told me :), where gifts are given, celebrations held and there is a tradition of the 'Invisible Friend' (similar to the Secret Santa). So, while I am disappointed we aren't all able to be together to celebrate - I wish you all a very happy friendship day!

Anyone can show up when you’re happy. But the ones who stay by your side when your heart falls apart, they are your true friends. – A.A. Milne

Month of July

ILSC Book Club

This month we're reading Shame by Salman Rushdie. Written in the style of magic realism, this book portrays the lives of Iskander Harappa and General Raza Hyder and their relationship. The central theme of the novel is that begetting "shame" begets violence. The concepts of 'shame' and 'shamelessness' are explored through all of the characters. We'll meet in the first week of August to share our impressions.

Looking for a change of scenery?

Tired of looking out your own window? Then why not look out someone else's? WindowSwap gives you a view through someone else's window with submissions coming in from all over the world - go to Germany, Singapore, Brazil, Miami!

Chelsea's choices

Silly challenges!

1) Tie the end of your shoelaces together and walk from one end of the room to the other.
2) Catch coins from your elbow (how many can you catch?)
3) Floor is lava! Can you get around your room without touching the floor (pillows can be used as safe spots!)?

Share photos of you completing (or failing) in these challenges and maybe we'll include them next week!

We need a new name!

Our newsletter has had the name Thanet St Planet based on our physical presence at 30 Thanet St. Now that we are no longer based there (but will end up at 10 Sandwich Street!), what should be the new name of this newsletter? Send in ideas using the link below!
