ILSC Book Club

This month's (and next month's) book is The Humans by Matt Haig: After an 'incident' one wet Friday night where Professor Andrew Martin is found walking naked through the streets of Cambridge, he has not been feeling quite himself. Food sickens him. Clothes confound him. Even his loving wife and teenage son are repulsive to him. He feels lost amongst a crazy alien species and hates everyone on the planet. Everyone, that is, except Newton, and he's a dog. Join us later this month to discuss your thoughts! Whether you've read a little or a lot, we all have something to share.

Lunar New Year: Call for Help!

One of the highlights of the ILSC social programme was always the Lunar New Year celebration. We'd like to recreate this online! But what made Lunar New Year so great was everyone contributing their traditional celebrations through food, games and activities! So, if you have recipes that we can share in advance, ideas for online games or would just like to share how Lunar New Year is celebrated in your home - please get in touch!

Happiness Hacks

If the half hour is too long, try the Daily Happiness Hack for Lockdown - they're only one-minute long! Here's also a link to 'Action for Happiness.' They have monthly calendars (like the one above) that are packed with actions you can take to help create a happier and kinder world - you can find other language versions there too!

It's good to get out of our own world for awhile and turn our attention to helping others. That might seem difficult in lockdown, but below is a list (thanks KCLSU!) on some micro-volunteering opportunities you can do from your desk!
  • Play games to support Cancer Research on their website.
  • Play some Easy Trivia on Free Rice for a good cause!
  • Be my eyes - use the app to help a visually-impaired person with different everyday tasks.
  • Zooniverse – People-powered projects for research.

Feeling a bit ...?

Many of us are feeling a bit weary and fed-up at the moment and may just need some space to talk. If you're feeling a bit down or anxious or sad or on edge or a bit lost in the midst of everything going on around you - remember that the chaplain is here to provide support for you. Feel free to get in touch over the phone or email if you'd like to schedule a time to talk.
