October Issue #50.1

ILSConnect

Keeping us all connected with what's happening at the ILSC and around London!
Autumn brings always something new to our lives, and so it does again! ILSC is finding it's new form and new ways to bring us together to enjoy great company, be it getting to know new people or meeting old friends. We are soon starting to plan events and get-togethers, and are more than happy to welcome any ideas for the future! What would be a nice way to spend time with old and new friends in London? Tell your ideas to us by emailing students@lutheran.org.uk and we will try our best to make it happen. Stay tuned for information about future events!

Did we forget last week's newsletter?

No, we did not. Don't worry, we haven't forgotten you! But now, as we are just planning new events and happenings, there is not much to inform on a weekly basis. That's why we decided to send out the newsletter twice a month to keep you updated and share what's happening at the ILSC and around London. Once we start having more to inform you, we might get back to weekly letters, but for now you can expect for this letter every two weeks.

Camden - London
When you can!

Support Camden’s Afghan Crisis Response

Many of you may be looking for ways to support refugees arriving in London from Afghanistan. Through Camden Council, here are a few ways you can help (even from around the world!).

At the moment, most newly arrived Afghan Nationals are in hotels managed by central Government – either in quarantine or in hotels where their housing and wider support needs are being assessed. Donations, volunteers and interpreters are needed to help.

You can donate through the Amazon Wish List. Hubs for in-person donations for will be updated on the Camden Council website. You can also contribute t the Hopsotch Women's Centre Fund or the Little Village Crisis Fund (for 0-5 year olds)

You an offer your time to volunteer through Time to Spare and if you speak any Afghan languages - Dari (Farsi) and Pashto, please contact the council directly to offer help interpreting.

Links for all of these options can be found below.

Richard Estes - Voyages

I just recently went to see this exhibition and definitely recommend it! The paintings look so real that you feel like you could just jump into the picture and join the life of the city or find yourself on the mountains of Nepal.

This is said on the website about the exhibition:

"Newport Street Gallery presents ‘Richard Estes: Voyages’, the first major exhibition of the artist’s work in the UK, 10 September – 12 December 2021.

The show, curated by Andrew Heyward, will include over forty-five paintings made over the last thirty years. While Estes is best known for his paintings of New York, the London show will also feature paintings made following trips to Europe, Asia, Africa and Antarctica.

Entry to the exhibition is free."
