ILSC Book Club

February's book is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles: In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. Join us later this month to discuss your thoughts! Whether you've read a little or a lot, we all have something to share. Upcoming reads:
March: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
April: Blindness by José Saramago

Lunar New Year: Call for Help!

One of the highlights of the ILSC social programme was always the Lunar New Year celebration. We'd like to recreate this online! But what made Lunar New Year so great was everyone contributing their traditional celebrations through food, games and activities! So, if you have recipes that we can share in advance, ideas for online games or would just like to share how Lunar New Year is celebrated in your home - please get in touch! Thank you to Iris for sending in this origami Ox with instructions!

Whenever, wherever

We're in the third lockdown (I think?!) and maybe we all need some new inspiration on how to stay connected online. Here are some ideas (thanks again to KCLSU!):
  • Go old school and send a postcard/letter to a loved one or to an elderly person
  • Setup a board game night with friends using Steam, Boardgame Arena or check out this big list of boardgames you can play virtually
  • Outwit your friends with the Psych! App where you make up fake answers to real trivia questions or at least try...

Whenever, Wherever!

Friendly February

A new month - a new calendar to take a crack at. This month is Friendly February packed with actions you can take to help create a happier and kinder world - you can find other language versions there too!

Feeling a bit ...?

Many of us are feeling a bit weary and fed-up at the moment and may just need some space to talk. If you're feeling a bit down or anxious or sad or on edge or a bit lost in the midst of everything going on around you - remember that the chaplain is here to provide support for you. Feel free to get in touch over the phone or email if you'd like to schedule a time to talk.
