The Thanet St Planet

What's happening at the ILSC and around London

True peace is not the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.

Sunday Prayers

Join us for this Sunday's evening prayers which will be centred around the theme of Justice as we pray for those affected by events in the USA and communities around the world that have been subjected to injustice and denial of human rights based on their race, gender, sexuality or any other difference that has been used by those in power to make others feel 'less than'. If you would like to be involved in reading or prayer leading, please contact Pastor Sarah.

Month of June

ILSC Book Club

This month we're reading The Incredible Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera which 'tells the story of a young woman in love with a man torn between his love for her and his incorrigible womanizing and one of his mistresses and her humbly faithful lover. This magnificent novel juxtaposes geographically distant places, brilliant and playful reflections, and a variety of styles, to take its place as perhaps the major achievement of one of the world’s truly great writers.'
We'll meet on the first Tuesday in July to share our impressions of the book!

Looking for something?

Take a break from the studies and start dancing in your bedroom (of course checking beforehand that your neighbour isn't studying... or just invite them to join in!). Rich Mix is putting on a Disco-in-Furlough this afternoon starting at 5pm! It will help raise funds for 'Save our Venues'. Or if you're looking for something more 'sit-down-based' sign up for Secret Cinema's Secret Sofa. Tonight's film/theme is Ghostbusters! Haven't found your on-line thing yet? Check out London On the Inside for more ideas.

World's Weirdest Events

A truck in Tennessee overturned while carrying 40,000 pounds of macaroni and cheese! No injuries reported but grab your forks, there is a big clean up on Highway 24

If your looking for a tasty dinner closer to home then you'd expect, this is the perfect dinner for some healthy (maybe) comfort food!

A different kind of ILSC?

Sadly, we all know that the ILSC housing is closing down at the end of June. The residents are who the ILSC is and we will greatly miss this unique community. However, there may be an opportunity for the chaplaincy to continue working in Bloomsbury and creating a 'community centre' for students studying in London. I would greatly value the input of ILSC residents (past and present) and friends of the ILSC to hear what you think this kind of new place could be? What are the best bits of the ILSC that we can continue to provide for students in a new way? There will be two Zoom meetings taking place. And if you are unable to take part , there will also be a questionnaire available to add some comments. If you would be interested in taking part, please contact Pastor Sarah. Thank you for those who have already been in touch!
