Keeping us all connected with what's happening at the ILSC and around London!
Now that we are heading towards the end of the year, we are having a short break in sending these newsletters. This is the last newsletter of the year, but worry not, you will hear from us again in the beginning of the new year!

For now, we gathered for you some fun things to do in London around Christmas time and some volunteering possibilities to bring joy and light to the dark December. And even though we're not sending you newsletters in December, don't hesitate to contact us if you wish! You can reach out by sending an email to or

Volunteering opportunities

Christmas is not 'the most wonderful time of the year' for everyone. Homeless people are one of the groups who might be easy to forget as Christmas joy is everywhere, but luckily there are a number of projects to tackle homelessness and provide practical help, compassion and warmth for the people in need, and many of them are in need of volunteers.

Crisis at Christmas is one of these projects, and they have a variety of volunteering roles from chefs to activities organisers to operations volunteers. So, if you have a bit of extra time in your hands and would like to make someone's Christmas time a bit brighter, check out the website for all the roles and how to volunteer!

Chech out also the list for more volunteering opportunities around Christmas time.

Christmas Lights

Want some brightness to darkening December evenings? The festive lights are lit all around London, so now it's time to plan a walk (or a bus ride, if you wish) around the brightest streets.

TimeOut London has listed the best Christmas lights you shouldn't miss this season. The list includes, to name a few, Southbank Centre, Leadenhall Market, Covent Garden and Marylebone (and Oxford Street, of course). And what's best, most of the lights will be up until the beginning of January, so there's plenty of time to see them all!

Listen to a podcast

What is a Lutheran? What it means to be a Lutheran? Listen to the first episode of a podcast series by the Council of Lutheran churches, this episode's main topic being the Lutheran identity.

You may also spot a familiar voice, and hear some funny answers to the question "What is a Lutheran?" from people at King's Cross (not so many of them had any idea!).

Lucia Services

The Swedish Lucia tradition gives you a chance to calm down and listen to the beautiful sound of the choir.

In the darkest time of the year, Lucia brings us a message of light and hope. Welcome to a Swedish Carol Service with the Ulrika Eleonora Church Choir bringing traditional Lucia and Christmas carols in a candlelit church. With prayers and greetings from our congregation, and singing by the choir led by Director of Music Toril Briese, we are united in the spirit of advent and Christmas.
