We need a new name!

Our newsletter has had the name Thanet St Planet based on our physical presence at 30 Thanet St. Now that we are no longer based there (but will end up at 10 Sandwich Street!), what should be the new name of this newsletter? Send in ideas using the link below!

Month of July

ILSC Book Club

This month we're reading Shame by Salman Rushdie. Written in the style of magic realism, this book portrays the lives of Iskander Harappa and General Raza Hyder and their relationship. The central theme of the novel is that begetting "shame" begets violence. The concepts of 'shame' and 'shamelessness' are explored through all of the characters. We'll meet in the first week of August to share our impressions.

Looking for something for the weekend?

After all the excitement of shops and cafes reopening last weekend maybe we want to take some time to relax in the Japanese Garden in Holland Park or chill out in St Dunstan-in-the-East or if you're more comfortable staying at home, why not check out this amazing short film of the Miniature World of Animated Paper Wildlife by WWF.

A quick recipe

If you're craving something sweet and don't want to make a whole cake this pudding hits the mark! (and only takes 7 minutes to make - including baking!)
Jam Pudding (serves 2)
Ingredients:
Butter (at room temperature), 2oz (50g) plus an extra pat
Caster Sugar, 2oz (50g)
Self-raising flour, 2oz (50g)
Egg, 1
Milk 1Tbsp
Jam or Marmalade, 2Tbsp
Custard, 1 cup (250ml) (optional)

Preparation:
-Grease the inside of two microwave-safe cups or mugs with the additional pat of butter.
-Sprinkle with a little flour and spoon the jam onto the base.
- Using an electric handheld mixer or wooden spoon, beat together the butter, sugar, flour, egg and milk.
 - Dive into the prepared cups, cover with clingfilm and pierce a hole in the top.
- Microwave each one separately on high for 1 1/2 minutes, until risen and cooked through.
- Leave to rest for 1 minute.
- You can either eat the pudding straight from the cup or turn it out onto a plate and spoon over some warmed custard.
