September Issue #49.2

Keeping us all connected with what's happening at the ILSC and around London!
I wish you all the very best and hope that many of you will stay in touch as the ILSC continues to develop and grow in new and exciting ways (see Anna's introduction below). I have loved being a part of this community and it has definitely made a life-long impact on me. And if you ever want to get in touch, don't hesitate to drop me a line:

Hello from the new Intern

Hi! I’m Anna Viikari and I’ve just started my internship for ILSC two weeks ago. I am doing my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services and Diaconal Work and I’ll be graduating in December. I like long walks, morning runs, reading books and meeting people, and I really enjoy nature. I will be in London till the beginning of December, and during my internship I am finding out ways to develop ILSC’s work and build the community of wonderful people. If you have any ideas for the ILSC work, please do email me: I am really looking forward to meeting you in the upcoming events that we are planning!

Camden - London
When you can!

Support Camden’s Afghan Crisis Response

Many of you may be looking for ways to support refugees arriving in London from Afghanistan. Through Camden Council, here are a few ways you can help (even from around the world!).

At the moment, most newly arrived Afghan Nationals are in hotels managed by central Government – either in quarantine or in hotels where their housing and wider support needs are being assessed. Donations, volunteers and interpreters are needed to help.

You can donate through the Amazon Wish List. Hubs for in-person donations for will be updated on the Camden Council website. You can also contribute t the Hopsotch Women's Centre Fund or the Little Village Crisis Fund (for 0-5 year olds)

You an offer your time to volunteer through Time to Spare and if you speak any Afghan languages - Dari (Farsi) and Pashto, please contact the council directly to offer help interpreting.

Links for all of these options can be found below.

Bermondsey Street Festival

Cocktails and cockapoos sound like a great combo, right? Well, a dog show & alcoholic bevs are just two things Bermondsey Street Party will serve up. Local street food, live performance and fancy homeware stalls make up this ‘village fête in the city’. Don’t leave without grabbing a bespoke poem by the Poetry Takeaway, which is apparently the world’s first mobile poetry emporium.
