A Conversation on Muslims in America with National Geographic
Just over two years ago, Ikhlas brought an idea into the world.
Her idea was simple: What would happen if we recorded and broadcasted the rich, complex, diverse lives of the Muslims we knew and loved? What if, for once, we had the ability to shape public conversations about our community? What if we talked about our struggles and our joys, without catering to the white gaze?
What would happen if there was a space where you could show up as your whole self and feel seen, heard, and cared for?
Thus the Identity Politics Podcast was born. And what a wild ride it has been. This passion project has slowly, yet steadily, grown into a force to be reckoned with. And people are beginning to pay attention. We have been highlighted by outlets such as Salon, MTV, and most recently NPR.
This Wednesday, May 2nd @ 7:30 p.m. at National Geographic Campus, Gilbert H. Grosvenor Auditorium, Makkah will be headlining a panel conversation on Muslims in America.
Their May issue includes a great story on the richness of the American Muslim community and they are hosting a conversation on this topic as a part of their launch of this issue.
If you're in D.C., or the surrounding area, we invite you to attend and to share this invitation with your friends and networks.
The podcast is only possible with the support of people like you so, if you're around, Makkah would love to see you there.
