On Tuesday, August 10 2021, our lunch speaker will be professional track athlete, Rebecca Mehra. Rebecca will come give our club an idea of what it's like to train for the Olympics during a pandemic.

This meeting will both in-person at the Riverhouse (Convention Center side, Cascade G), and virtual.

Originally from Palos Verdes Estates, California, Mehra was one of the few athletes in state history to compete in eight state meets — four in track and four in cross country. Mehra helped lead Palos Verdes to the Division III State Cross Country title in 2011, a second place finish in 2010 and a third place finish in 2009.

Individually, Mehra was the State Division III Champion in Cross Country and set seven school records during her high school career. During her collegiate career at Stanford University, Mehra ran both indoor and outdoor track, as well as cross country. As a three time All-American, she served as an anchor for the Cardinal team.

Some of Mehra’s accolades include 3rd place NCAA Indoor DMR (2016), 6th place NCAA Outdoor 1500M (2017), USATF Championships Finalist 800M (2019), and 3rd place 5th Ave. Mile (2019). Currently, Mehra is a professional track athlete for Oiselle, who lives and trains in Bend, Oregon.

On Tuesday, August 31 our noon meeting will be moved to a Happy Hour at Greg's Grill as we celebrate our International Friendships.

The Veterans Village is coming together fast. Every facet of our community has been pitching in. Our own Michael Summers is donating the flooring for each of these units and of course you all know that Erik Tobiason has been a driving force behind this vision of a safe place for our veterans.

The village will provide emergency shelter for 15 individuals along with a community room. Now it's time to show what our Club can do. This is project that is "kid friendly" and your children 12 and over are welcome to see what community Service is all about.

Check this Youtube video out to see all the partners that are making this possible. Too many to list!

Please step up and sign up for a Rotary Work Day on Saturday September 11,

half a day or full day. You don't have to have a building background there will jobs for all skill levels. We will be painting, installing flooring, deck construction and more advanced stuff for those who are knowledgeable.

Erik Tobiason receiving recognition from the club for his work with Veterans.

Meet Roger Ager. Roger is a founding (charter) member of the Greater Bend Rotary Club and a Past President. He is also a former Mayor of Bend.

His favorite part of being a Rotarian is meeting interesting people, both in the club and speakers, and our charitable activities. Roger is currently retired from being a Vice President and Trust Officer for two major banks.

As you have been seeing and hearing, District 5110 will be holding it's district celebration August 26 to 28 at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds. This celebration honors "The Year that Changed Rotary! and is the culmination of Bend Rotary Club's now PDG Cindi O'Neil's year (and wife of RCGB's Bill O'Neil) .

The celebration, particularly the high caliber speakers, comes at a cost. We need sponsors willing to help offset those costs. Sponsors will be recognized in promotional materials and during program events. So far, we have SolAire Homebuilders, Jim Lussier and Mid Oregon Credit Union signed on to help sponsor. Please join us!

Contact Bill Anderson at 541.480.5799 or will@midoregon to sign on to be a sponsor and help honor DG Cindi's year.

The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.

Let's make our club a "Sustaining Member Club" by each member donating $100 or more this year.
