Last week BEND FIRE & RESCUE explained the need to increase the levy. Find out more below or with the enclosed QR code.
1. Support staffing levels that improve response times, which saves more lives and property. Fast response times mean better outcomes.
2. Help maintain our cardiac survivability rates which are higher than the national average. More resources means smaller service areas assigned to each station, meaning quicker responses to emergencies.
3. Allow Bend Fire & Rescue to keep pace with the increasing call volume & growing demands for service. Increasing emergency calls means more firefighters/paramedics and equipment needed to respond. If resources are tied up on emergency calls, response times are longer.
4. Bend Fire & Rescue uses the community’s tax dollars wisely. They strive to implement innovative cost-efficient programs that maximize tax dollars and have not asked for a levy increase since 2014, even though the demand for service has increased 60% over that same time period.

Have you ever thought about hosting a foreign exchange student? Do you live in the Summit HS attendance boundaries? If so, we have a great opportunity for you. Every year, Rotary Club of Greater Bend sponsors an inbound exchange student at Summit HS and we are starting the process of recruiting host families for the 2023-24 school year. We will know in approximately a month who the student will be & what country they are from. I can guarantee they will bring a good spirit of adventure and want to share experiences and learn about a new culture.
We are seeking three host families for next year:
Host Family #1 – approx mid-August arrival to Thanksgiving
Host Family #2 - roughly Thanksgiving Break to Spring Break
Host Family #3 - roughly Spring Break to late-June
There is no compensation for hosting, but students receive a monthly allowance, and some large expenses (e.g. ski pass or comparable) are covered by the Rotary club. Many club members have been host families and have developed lifelong friendships!
If you are interested in learning more about this great opportunity - to expose your own family members to another culture or just wanting to help a young student from another country - please contact via email Bruce Abernethy call 541-771-0463.
Boys & Girls Club is currently accepting sponsors for their Throwback Prom. Click HERE to learn more about sponsorship opportunities and the perks that come with them!
To apply, please fill out their (digitally fillable) sponsor application and send the completed document to Alice@BGCBend.org. Please contact Alice if you have further questions.
