Greetings, Pacific Northwest District Key Clubbers!

While many of our Alaskan Key Clubbers have already started school, this will be my final Biweekly Update before the school year starts for most of us in the lower 48, which is after Labor Day. It’s crazy to think that summer vacation is nearing its end! I hope that you all had a summer filled with fun memories, enriching experiences, and countless opportunities to perform service in your homes, schools, and communities.

Seeing that the school year is drawing closer each and every day, this Biweekly Update mainly focuses on upcoming opportunities offered by the district to enhance the membership experience for our clubs. First of all, the annual MGRC Membership Campaign will take place from September 3rd to 6th and will help clubs utilize new and improved resources for new member recruitment. Second, the early-bird deadline for Key Club Day registrations will be closing in less than a week for clubs in Western Washington and Oregon. Lastly, PNWOF Applications will be released on September 1st. Keep reading for more information on these important updates!

As always, feel free to reach out to me at governor@pnwkeyclub.org if you have any questions!

The Membership Growth and Reactivation Committee is hosting our district’s annual Membership Campaign from September 3rd to 6th. Throughout the last few months, the Committee has been working tirelessly to revamp pre-existing resources, and will be releasing an Updated Membership Growth & Retention Toolkit, Updated Membership Guidebook, and Updated 8th Grade Recruitment Kit at the beginning of the campaign. During our recent Summer Board meeting, the Committee also began filming a new Membership Recruitment Video to be released during the campaign. We hope that these resources will be valuable to your club during recruitment season this fall! Lastly, Membership Growth and Reactivation Chair, Abdullah Islam will be hosting a Webinar on Membership Growth that will include tips on how to increase membership and recruit members, as well as a Q&A session on the evening of September 6th. Any questions regarding the Membership Campaign should be directed to Abdullah at membership@pnwkeyclub.org.
Key Club Days will take place next month on September 7th in Federal Way, Washington; September 14th in Portland, Oregon; and September 28th in Spokane, Washington. On that note, Early Bird Registration will be closing shortly for these events. The final day to order tickets for Key Club Days North and South will be August 25th and September 15th for Key Club Day East. I would highly recommend purchasing tickets at the PNW Key Club Shop before the deadline, as tickets sold at the door will not be guaranteed a meal and will be a higher price.

Curious what happens at Key Club Days? Here’s what to expect this year:
  • Missed your opportunity to purchase Thirst Project Merch at DCON? We will be selling a limited amount of sweatshirts, hoodies, and stickers at each Key Club Day. Additionally, Kellen Brewer will be visiting Key Club Day North again this year to talk about the Thirst Project.
  • Spirit gear is encouraged! We will be giving spirit sticks to the loudest, most spirited divisions at each Key Club Day.
  • Keynote speakers include highly-rated DCON speaker and life coach, Sahil Punamia for Key Club Days North and South and American Ninja Warrior contestant, Hoan Do for Key Club Day East.
  • Each LTG will be organizing a “Meet Your LTG session,” a 30 minute period of time for your division to get together, participate in icebreakers, give updates, and more.
  • After the program ends, we invite you to enjoy the rest of the day in the theme park. By purchasing a Key Club Day ticket, you also gain access to the venue until it closes in the evening.

The annual Pacific Northwest Opportunities Fund (PNWOF) application will open on September 1st! We’re looking for clubs of all sizes from all areas of the PNW to apply for grants. Clubs can receive grants of $100 to $1,000 to help them organize projects that impact their local community or fundraisers for the District Project. If your club is looking for inspiration, please see below for a successful PNWOF sponsored project highlighted by District Treasurer and PNWOF Chair, Katie Sell.

Clackamas High School in Division 66 received $1,000 for their annual Winter Rage project from the PNWOF. This project helped to provide low-income families with food and gifts for the holiday season. Many families cannot afford to give their children gifts during the holiday season.  Winter Rage addresses this problem by providing food and gifts for children from low-income families. Beginning in 1997, Winter Rage has helped hundreds of families.  By collecting donations from the community,  between 150 and 300 families annually have been provided food, clothes, furniture and toys. This year, with the increased funds from PNWOF, over 500 children and 175 families were helped by Winter Rage. This is a huge increase from the single family that was helped in 1997.
