Clear Air Turbulence   - Newsletter #26

“We do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.“ (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

Aeroplanes

1957: Age 25. First trip in an airplane, with my boss, Ray Leadaband, A Douglas DC6 flight from SFO to SEA, then a PAA Stratocruser SEA to FAI... First jet trip PAA 707 JFK to MIA 1961. In a few years I was eligible for UALs Million Mile Club.

So, I know all about engine failures, run-away props, cancelled flights —clear-air turbulence and subsonic flight. I was never into parachute jumping, hot air ballooning, sky diving or wild rides at Great America.

A dirigible flight with my friend Ren Breck over San Francisco (low and slow) sticks in my memory. I can hardly wait for Warp Drives, Vimalas and Flying Carpets with Tachyon Engines. Coming soon in the about-to-happen age when Jesus is in office in Jerusalem. All aboard!

Clear Air Turbulence in the Invisible World

There is plenty of far worse turbulence for the followers of Jesus Christ compared to flying at 35,000 feet in a giant airliner. It’s going to be far, far worse for all those who stay outside of Jesus Christ. The small, limited world we inhabit is surrounded by a vast, unseen spiritual world. That realm is populated by millions of angels in grand array. A third of the angels rebelled soon after the physical world was created, led by a mighty archangel Lucifer (“light bearer”) aka HaSatan (“adversary”).

The spiritual world—around us and within us, above us and below, (macrocosm and microcosm)—is far more solid and permanent than the physical. We were raised to think otherwise of course.

A great cosmic war is still raging in the unseen realm. This distress sends shock waves and turbulence into our daily lives down below. We call these unsettling storms in life  “Times of Stress” http://www.ldolphin.org/Stress.html. (The direct battling of mighty angels can be seen in Daniel 9ff).

Science is highly limited and is not equipped to describe many invisibilities outside the physical.

The Pilgrim Trail

“Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation (peirasmos —literally, “testing”)  has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.“ (1 Corinthians 10:1-13)

A long term favorite passage in James also is about the testing and proving of our faith.

Temptation and Testing

“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.

But each one is tempted (peirazō) when he is drawn away (exelkō) by his own desires and enticed (deleazō)

Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.“ (James 1:12-15)

Temptation here can mean testing, or it can mean being solicited to disobey God and give in to selfish desire. The verbs suggest a fisherman’s lure and the enticing of a bird to fly into a net. But the vivid imagery here in James is that of an illicit sexual liaison resulting in the conception of an unwanted child named “sin.” The sin child grows up to an adult named “death.”

Followers of Jesus Christ are urged to put on mighty armor for fighting invisible, formidable beings who have great power. Human beings are never our real enemies!

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.“ (2 Corinthians 10:3-6)

”Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—.” (Ephesians 6:10-18)

All of the above is only an introduction to the vast subject of engaging evil beings and pulling down their unseen strongholds. When we who know Jesus succeed in this—and we will—changes in the visible world, in society, and our daily lives will follow.

At the present time in world history the Commander in Chief of the Armies of the Lord God, namely the man Jesus Christ, is poised for a final series of confrontations between good and evil and the grand liberation of earth.

“Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.“ (Revelation 19:11-16)
