Dear Professional Learning Leaders, 

America is at a moment of reckoning, and there are only two possible outcomes: the continual perpetuation of White supremacy through the upholding of oppressive systems, or a new normal in which these systems are dismantled. As professional learning leaders, we must choose a side. 

White people: Take some time to do some reflection and a Google search; there are more than enough resource lists and learning opportunities. Once you have expanded your knowledge base, bring a White family member, friend, or colleague along for the journey.

Nonblack people of color: Stand in solidarity with Black people right now. If necessary, examine your privilege and proximity to Whiteness. 

Black people: Do what you need to do to cope with what we’re experiencing. We do not have to be monolithic in our response.

Take care of yourselves, and be safe (because COVID-19 is still a thing),

The Professional Learning Collaborative's Think Tank Series

The Professional Learning Think Tank will welcome professional development providers to an open, year-long reflection on professional learning in the greater Pittsburgh region. Think Tank events will help providers, developers, and other professional learning leaders reconnect with their passion and explore innovation, equity, and collaboration in educator learning.

This series will help staff developers of all content areas and expertise connect and further their practice, in order to provide more engaging, relevant, and equitable professional learning to educators in our region. 

Four sessions in the coming school year will each tackle a different theme:

  • Motivation: Reconnected us to the "why" of our work as providers of professional learning. (September 20, 12-3pm @ CoLab18)

  • Collaboration: Partnered on professional learning "small bets" with other workgroup members. (December 5, 12-3pm @ CKV Suites)

  • Inspiration: A virtual conversation about how professional learning leaders are staying inspired and innovative during COVID-19. (May 13, 2-4pm on Zoom)

  • Creation: Using what you've learned, help build the next iteration of a vision for the future of professional learning in our region. Respond to the Doodle poll with your availability. 


Designing for Race Equity: Now is the Time

School teams eager to make an equity-centered response to the impacts of the pandemic can use the five principles of the equityXdesign framework; examples and stories from schools offer inspiration and a place to start.


Shifting Power in Educational Research and Development

Invitation to apply! Educators and researchers are invited to participate in the design and implementation of an innovative equity-focused research process that positions Black and Latinx educators as research leaders.
