Weekly e-News for Students, Faculty, Staff, and Community

Welcome Back
Welcome to WWU and the School of Education and Psychology (SEP) and our weekly communique, the Dean's Desk. Whatever has brought you here, whether to begin or continue your academic college life, or to prepare for a new career following your graduation this spring, we are here to serve. We welcome you to this 2022-2023 school year and hope you find a home in our midst. Our entire faculty and staff look forward to helping you reach your goals.  ~ Debbie Muthersbaugh, Dean

What can I return to the Lord for all his goodness to me?...Truly I am your servant, Lord; I serve you just as my mother did; you have freed me from my chains... I will prepare a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord. Praise the Lord. ~ Psalm 116:16-19

Faculty and Staff Training Days
Each fall in preparation for the beginning of school, the SEP team meets together to plan and prepare to serve our students. This year we convened on our Rosario Marine Station campus, followed by another day of meetings back on the WWU campus. We were challenged to remember aspects of Jesus' early ministry, and to consider how to become more effective Christian leaders by leaning more purposely on God through prayer. We also experienced times of team building, planning, and collaborating together.
SEP Clubs
Education and Psychology Clubs
The SEP sponsors two active clubs in our department for both psychology and education. Faculty sponsors include Dr. Linda Ivy (psychology club) and Dr. Brian Hartman (education club). Join both club Instagram pages here:

Discovery Preschool
Preschool Fall Session Begins
Discovery Preschool students headed back to school the first of September and have been enjoying sunny days outside in their playground area located on the southwest lawn of Smith Hall. Head Teacher Stacy Maxted (pictured top right) and Assistant Teacher Elizabeth Yaw (not pictured) lead both morning and afternoon sessons. The preschool also hires education and psychology students to assist in their classroom. Discovery Preschool serves as a learning lab for both education and psychology classes.
Curriculum Library
The SEP Wishes Franice Stirling a Happy Retirement
After over 34 years working as our Curriculum Library Director, Franice Stirling (pictured above with her husband Ralph, WWU engineering department Instrument Engineer) retires October 1, 2022. It is sad for us to see her go, but we are happy for her as well. The department held a farewell picnic in the College Place Lions Park recently celebrating her years of dedicated service.
Come sign a card of thanks for Franice Stirling in the SMH 3rd floor Curriculum Library this week between the hours of 2:00-7:00 pm! (Cards are provided.)
Welcome to Stephanie Onthank
We are happy to have Stephanie overseeing the operation of our Curriculum Library this coming year. She will schedule hours, make resources available, among other things. Please feel free to contact her with questions about our library at 509-527-2210.
