Medication Incident Reporting in PEI
The Council of the PEI College of Pharmacy has adopted the NAPRA Model Standards of Practice for Continuous Quality Improvement and Medication Incident Reporting by Pharmacy Professionals. The College has approved an implementation timeline requiring all community pharmacies to start reporting medication incidents/near misses by January 31, 2023.
Please visit the PEICP website for guidance on how to begin the process of implementing medication incident reporting in your pharmacy:
The latest bulletin shares recommendations for safer API labels, as well as examples to illustrate improved label content and design, discusses ambiguity and errors in master formulation records, and details a new controlled substances diversion risk assessment program.
First Aid and CPR Requirements All pharmacists are required to maintain valid first aid and CPR certifications in order to maintain their pharmacist registration. Pharmacy technicians who will be applying for an extended practice certification in drug administration will also be required to obtain and maintain valid first aid and CPR certification.
The minimum course requirement is emergency first aid and CPR level C certification. The course must contain a component where a demonstration of skills for certification is required. Blended programs where theory is learned online followed by an in person required demonstration component are acceptable. Further details can be found in RP.11 - CPR/First Aid Requirements policy located on the PEICP website. Please forward any questions to the PEICP office (info@pepharmacists.ca).
