Reminder: Amendment to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Narcotic Control Regulations - Tramadol
As of March 31, 2022, tramadol was moved from the Prescription Drug List to Schedule I of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). Tramadol will also be listed in the Schedule of the Narcotic Control Regulations (NCR) and therefore subject to all the regulatory requirements set out in the CDSA and NCR.
PEICP has clarified with Health Canada that prescriptions for tramadol received prior to March 31st which still have part-fills remaining are still valid.
Temporary Suspension of the Provisional Registration Pathway for Internationally Trained Pharmacists
The PEI College of Pharmacy shared, in the last publication of the Island Capsule (Edition 8, Volume 7), information regarding the temporary suspension of the Provisional Registration Pathway for internationally trained pharmacists effective May 27, 2022 until April 1, 2023.
Since the announcement, there has been an increase in interest in registration through the existing pathway which is driving requests for preceptors to oversee the 700 hour practice experience requirement. Potential preceptors should be aware that an applicant must present a preceptor/site approval form with their application on or before May 27, 2022. However, their practice experience may be scheduled to begin after May 27, 2022 but must be completed, along with the 1 week assessment, before April 1, 2023.
Should potential preceptors have any questions, please contact the PEICP office.
