The Island Capsule is a publication of the PEI College of Pharmacy and is forwarded to every registrant of the College on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month.
Registration Renewal Portal Opening Soon
The PEICP Registration Renewal Portal will open on Wednesday, February 9th at noon for Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, and Managers to renew registrations. The Registration Renewal Portal can be found on the PEI College of Pharmacy website.
The registration renewal deadline (including payment) is March 15, 2022 at midnight. After this date late fees will apply. If renewal is not completed by March 31, 2022 at midnight, your registration will expire and reinstatement will be required.
We highly recommend accessing your account and starting the renewal process before the deadline to ensure there are no issues in completing registration renewal.
A few tips for a successful renewal:
1. Ensure that you have the required documentation either submitted previously to the PEICP office or have it ready to upload into the portal. Registrants will be unable to proceed with their renewal if there are expired certifications (e.g. CPR, Insurance, CRC).
2. Extended Practice Certifications are also renewed at the same time as the registration renewal. Failure to renew EPCs at the time of registration renewal will require manual renewal by the PEICP staff.
3. Pharmacy Managers no longer require two profiles and logins. Pharmacy managers can renew the pharmacy permit in their own registrant profile.
4. Carefully review your personal information and employment information and make corrections as needed.
5. Carefully read and review each of the declarations at the end of the renewal. If you do not understand a declaration, please contact the PEICP to discuss.
6. Payment can be made by e-transfer to email@example.com, or by cheque. There is no password required. If paying via e-transfer please note the name and invoice number in the notes when completing the e-transfer.

Continuing Education Deadline Approaching
Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are reminded that the deadline for entering continuing education activities into the registrant portal is February 28th. Please attempt to log in before the deadline in the event that your account is locked or password forgotten. Contact the College office at email@example.com if any technical difficulties are encountered.

Health Canada e-Services Portal for Reporting Controlled Drug Loss or Theft
Health Canada has announced that pharmacists may now self-register for Health Canada’s E-Services Portal to report Loss or Theft. Reports can still be submitted by email or fax using the reporting form.
Personal Professional Liability Insurance and First Aid/CPR Certification
Registrants are reminded to upload current personal professional liability insurance certificates and first aid/CPR certifications (if applicable) into the registrant portal.
Pharmacists and pharmacy students who have had first aid/CPR courses cancelled or delayed due to COVID-19 should contact the College office as soon as possible to ensure there is no break in registration.
Expressions of Interest - Provisional Registrant Assessors
Provisional registrants who obtain their education outside of Canada are required to complete a one week assessment of their pharmacy practice after completing structured practice experience requirements, as a prerequisite to obtaining general pharmacist registration in PEI. Assessors are appointed by the College and evaluate the provisional registrant's practice at the assessor's workplace, using a College-provided assessment tool. The College is seeking pharmacists interested in acting as an assessor. If interested, please forward a current resume/CV to the Registrar (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Final Recommendation for Brimonidine Tartrate Opthalmic Solution in Concentration in up to and Including 0.025%
The interim recommendations made by the National Drug Scheduling Advisory Committee (NDSAC) on December 6, 2021 that:
Brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution in concentrations up to and including 0.025%, used for the relief of redness of the eye due to minor eye irritations caused by environmental allergies, dryness and fatigue for adults of 18 years and older be granted Schedule III status, subject to the removal from the Prescription Drug List (PDL)
Brimonidine or its salts, except when sold as brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution in concentrations up to and including 0.025%, used for the relief of redness of the eye due to minor eye irritations caused by environmental allergies, dryness and fatigue for adults of 18 years and older will remain in Schedule I (as per the Prescription Drug List)
were finalized effective January 25, 2022. Final approval of the interim recommendations was made by NAPRA’s Board of Directors, in consideration of comments received during the 30-day review period. The National Drug Schedules will be revised accordingly once the affected substance is removed from the Prescription Drug List.
