As you may be aware, the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Regulations were amended to add COVID-19 under Schedule C to the Regulations giving authority to pharmacists, who hold an Extended Practice Certification in Minor Ailment Prescribing, to prescribe treatments for COVID-19.  The regulatory amendment came into force on July 23, 2022.  The College is working with the Department of Health and Wellness and Health PEI to have information regarding prescribing eligibility criteria for COVID-19 treatments and access to provincial stock made available to pharmacists as soon as possible

Pharmacists are expected to comply with the Model Standards of Practice for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians in Canada, Code of Ethics, and Prescribing of Drugs Practice Directive.  As the College has not placed limitations on prescribing for COVID-19, pharmacists are expected to follow provincial eligibility criteria for COVID-19 treatments.  Once this information is shared with the College, registrants will be notified.

If you have any questions, please contact the PEICP office.
