Aussie Backyard Bird Count
The annual nationwide Aussie Backyard Bird Count run by Birdlife Australia is on from 19–25 October 2020. Anyone can take part in this big survey of local birds in backyards, bush, paddocks or waterways. You need to download the Aussie Bird Count app to your mobile device, record the birds you see at one location for 20 minutes and upload the data. The app can help you identify the birds. You can do as many 20 minute surveys as you like.
The annual count provides important data about the changing distribution of our birdlife. It will be especially important this year following the summer bushfires, and with the effects of climate change.

In Kalimna Park it would be very interesting to know more about the birds in the threatened Victorian Temperate Woodland Bird Community. Their numbers have declined because of habitat clearing and fragmentation, and predation by foxes and cats.
