Updates from Friends of Kalimna Park, Castlemaine

New Committee Members Urgently Needed

At our most recent meeting, the Friends of Kalimna Park committee decided that the current committee, while still maintaining an interest in the park, no longer has the capacity to maintain an active Friends group.

Unless new and energetic committee members come forward before our AGM on 25th November, the group will go into hibernation for the foreseeable future.

What this means in practice is that the group will continue to exist as an incorporated body with the current executive, however we will not be meeting regularly and will not be undertaking any projects.

If you would like to prevent this from happening, please consider joining the committee. If there is enough interest in keeping the group going with a new executive the current committee would be happy to facilitate the change.

Please contact us at to discuss what is involved, or call Max on 0422 130 055.

Eltham Copper Butterfly Workshop - 25th November

On a brighter note, there will be a workshop on how to monitor the nationally endangered Eltham Copper Butterfly at Kalimna Point on Sunday 25th November (after our AGM).

Kalimna Park is one of the very few places that Eltham Copper Butterflies live. We can all help to protect their habitat by finding out where they are living in the park and passing the information to the government who will use it to make better management decisions.

The workshop is being put on by Connecting Country and will feature two experienced local ecologists - Elaine Bayes and Karl Just.

We'll send out more information on the workshop soon, but please put Sunday 25th November in your diary. It will start at about 1pm.
