Parents give their children. (We usually give them back!)
Children give their hearts. (And learn that in the giving, their hearts just grow bigger.)
Donors have given almost $2 million to ensure that Ekone will have a future. (It will!)
Some literally give their bodies. (Making that last act a gift for the earth.)
Today, we're writing to invite you to give in powerful new way, and make Ekone Ranch, Sacred Earth Foundation, and White Eagle Memorial Preserve a part of your estate plans.
And for each person who says YES and commits to taking this step in 2022, our wonderful inaugural Cornerstone Donor will make a $5,000 cash gift to Ekone, now, for EACH of the first ten members of the Long Haul Legacy Circle.
That's $50,000 NOW for the vital work of Sacred Earth Foundation, and secure support for the long haul, too.
There are several very-straightforward ways to include Ekone in your estate plans! (And more complicated ways too, which we won't get into here.) Here are the most common paths:
Bequest of a specific dollar amount.
Bequest of a percentage of your estate.
Stocks & Securities, now or through your will.
Retirement Fund, designating SEF as a beneficiary.
Life Insurance, designating SEF as a beneficiary.
Bequest of personal property.
Bequest of real estate.
There can be some real advantages to you in some of these options, though you'll need to talk to your legal and tax advisors to know how it'll play out in your situation.
You don't need to have every detail sorted out before you make your pledge. You just need to set an intention, let us know, and we'll walk together through the details.
(And if you've already included Ekone in your estate plans, now is a fabulous time to let us know ~ you'll unlock that $5,000 cash match gift!)
Your planned gift to Ekone could make a Huge Impact on a small organization.
Your legacy could be the conservation of an key puzzle piece in the Rock Creek watershed. It could provide equitable access to Ekone's transformative programs for generations of kids. It could allow us to invest in innovative stewardship projects, like controlled fire, to support this landscape in a changing climate. It could support a vital new staff position. It could lead to (even more) improved infrastructure, like a covered training space so we can work with horses year-round, or a gathering gazebo at White Eagle for burial attendees. We have so many ideas! Your gift could make really big things happen here.
Most immediately, planned gifts could be instrumental in paying off the 55-acre North Woods parcel adjacent to the cemetery. We took out a $160,000 loan in 2021 to save this property from imminent logging, going out on a financial limb to avert this disaster. The loan is due in full in 2026.
Planned gifts could also help us secure the Confluence parcel; 140 spectacular, pristine acres at the confluence of Ekone Creek and Rock Creek.
Today's pledges will support tomorrow's bold initiatives at Ekone Ranch!
We'll take deep breaths of gratitude for your belief in the future of Ekone!
And we'll also recognize your support in the new Legacy Giving Garden on the west side of the Cabin in the Ekone valley, facing the gorgeous sunset over the horse pasture, surrounded by the summer camp play field, visited often by White Eagle families. The garden will include a simply-carved stone with the name(s) of each member of the Long Haul Legacy Circle, and a tall engraved Cornerstone for each donor who provides a $10,000+ cash match to inspire Legacy Gifts. We'll landscape and tend the Garden with seasonal flowers, as an enduring symbol of the commitment and legacy of this visionary circle of supporters.
We'll also recognize Legacy Circle donors on our website and in emails, and in other creative, authentic ways as they arise!
We’re also happy to keep your gift anonymous or make it “in honor of” another.

I'd always love to hear from you.
With love and gratitude,
Shonie Schlotzhauer, Executive Director, on behalf of the long haul at Ekone Ranch. ♥
