We're off to SNO2019, the Society of Neuro-Oncology Annual Meeting, in Phoenix on Thursday. We'll exhibit our work to date, spreading the incredible enthusiasm and determination from our glioblastoma community, who show determination, courage, and camaraderie in the face of this disease. Please let us know if you'll be there, we'd love to invite you to our reception and work together to defeat this disease.
Live video chat with neuro-oncologist Lakshmi Nayak: Monday Nov. 25, 10:30am ET
Lakshmi Nayak, MD, is a neuro-oncologist at the Center for Neuro-Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and assistant professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. She's also co-chair of the OurBrainBank Medical Advisers.
Chatting with our founder Jessica recently, Lakshmi was surprised to find out that Jessica is sometimes intimidated by medical professionals. Jessica and Lakshmi decided to open up a conversation about the gap between doctors and patients — why patients can lack confidence or health literacy to speak up, and the assumptions that some doctors make about how much information to provide. If you're a GBM caregiver or patient (newly diagnosed or long-term survivor), please join our chat and let's address this critical issue of patient-doctor communication.
Our app will go live in the UK on Tuesday December 3rd, when we launch with a pro bono ad campaign including huge digital billboards in London's city center.
We work every day to make glioblastoma — the deadliest of brain tumors — treatable, not terminal. With a median survival of 15 months, we need to work fast and furiously to improve the quality of life and outcomes. Help us by DONATINGnow!
Help us reach our year-end goal of $200,000. All of our programs need support:
OBB Explore $100 will support outreach to recruit more patients to our symptom tracking app and our community.
OBB Engage $500 will support our advocacy — we're collaborating with our community and other cancer nonprofits to establish a manifesto of patient-centered principles to reform the GBM standard of care.
OBB Empower $1000 will support our work towards a human-centered clinical trial matching venture with the goal of faster delivery of new GBM drugs and treatments.
Supporters will be listed on our website (unless you'd prefer to be anonymous). And of course, donations of all sizes are needed and much appreciated.
You can double your gift on Giving Tuesday with Facebook. Facebook’s match for GivingTuesday begins at 8:00am ET on Tuesday Dec. 3rd, and donations are matched dollar for dollar on a first-come, first-served basis up to $7 million, so give early.
Storytelling Circle Tri-state area friends: we’ve received a special gift of a one-time complimentary Hidden RootsStorytelling Circle for GBM patients and their loved ones. Circles are an opportunity to speak, to witness, and to reflect. Please write Martha if interested. Event will take place in a private space in Manhattan in early December, space is limited.
With warmest regards from the OurBrainBank team:
Martha, Jessica & Aurelia
