Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library Newsletter

December 2021

From Cathy's Desk
I’m back and would like to thank Library Manager, Laura Tait, for writing last month’s column.  It was wonderful to take some vacation time in B.C. where I visited with my grandson for the first time in two years.  I’m grateful for this in-person family time and know not everyone is as fortunate.  We hope you’re able to visit with loved ones this holiday season and if you can’t, come see us at the library for great reads and engaging programs.

Great new reads are featured each month in this newsletter but you can always go to our website to see what’s just arrived.  From our homepage, click on “Books & More” then select “New to the Collection”.  When you click on a book cover, all kinds of interesting information pops up including a plot summary, read-alikes, similar authors, ratings, reviews and (my favorite) story elements that when selected generate a customized list of titles.  You can try it out here; https://notlpubliclibrary.org/newbooks.

In programming news, our Nobel Prize series with Dr. Bill Brown concludes this month with a discussion of the peace prize on December 6 and literature prize on December 13.  The learning continues with this year’s final installment of Learn & Live, a program developed by local residents under the direction of the Town’s Community Wellness Committee.  Dr. Sam Thrall, Geriatrician with Niagara Health and a McMaster University Professor, presents Aging Well on December 14.

We’re also offering creative, hands-on programs for all ages this month in The Makery.  Regular baby, preschool and teen programs continue and Tech Tutoring is always available.  There really is something for everyone.

Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate library service during the pandemic and thank you for your ongoing support.  Library board and staff wish you the best as 2021 ends and the best for 2022.
