Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library Newsletter

December 2022

From Cathy's Desk

December is upon us and although 2022 is winding down, there are still lots of great programs and new titles arriving to close out the year. We’re also pleased to announce the arrival this month of upgraded lockers at the St. David’s Fire Hall. The lockers were installed in 2015 to make borrowing and returning more convenient for St. Davids, Queenston and Glendale residents. We’d like to thank the Government of Canada for funding part of this project through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.

We’d also like to thank the CBC for choosing public libraries as its partner for the launch of CBC Corner, the new digital portal bringing together CBC and Radio-Canada digital content into a single experience. Accessed from the library’s homepage, CBC Corner is a free digital collection that includes CBC news, audio, video, child, teen and young adult content, sports, a language learning app and more, updated throughout the day.

Video games are another new addition to the collection. Browse the display of game covers to find the one you’d like and bring it to the service desk. We’ll bring you the game which can be borrowed for one week with a maximum of two renewals. There’s a wide range of child, teen and adult games for use on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox X, and PlayStation5 gaming systems.

Finally, we’d like to thank you for your support this year by making the entire Hoopla digital collection available for borrowing and doubling your number of loans for the month of December. Enjoy this gift of videos, music, audiobooks, comics, and e-books from the Hoopla collection on your mobile device or computer.

Keep reading for more details on this month’s programs, including seasonal Makery workshops and speed dating for seniors. And a final reminder about the board information session tonight, December 1st, at 7:00 p.m. in the library Rotary Room. If you’re interested in joining the 2023 – 2027 library board, we’ll be sharing details about library governance and what it takes to be an effective board member. Please register here.

Season’s greetings from all of us at the NOTL Public Library and all the best in 2023!
