Northwest Hope & Healing Family and Friends,

November has been a very busy month for Northwest Hope and Healing! We held our annual Cork Fork Support Wine Tasting Fundraiser at Melrose Market Studios in Capitol Hill on the 7th. Over 130 of our friends and supporters came together to sample delicious wines, ciders, cocktails, and brews from generous local businesses as we celebrated the amazing individuals served by Northwest Hope and Healing.

Cork Fork Support Keynote Speaker, Jennifer, reminded us of the incredible impact of the gifts given through NWHH on patients as she shared her story of being diagnosed with and battling cancer during her pregnancy. Her story of fight, resilience, and hope is inspiring,
and a heartfelt reminder of the importance of the work we do.

A huge thanks to everyone who supported the event through donating, volunteering, and attending! We raised over $72,000!

Three Generations of Volunteers! Taylor, her mother JJ, and her grandmother Barbi all came together to volunteer at this year's event!

A huge thank you to the whole family!

This month, Northwest Hope and Healing was also featured in Swedish Cancer Institute's Life to the Fullest Blog. Click Here to read the story!

Finally, the wonderful women of Society, A Salon in Sumner spent the month of October fundraising for Northwest Hope and Healing! We just received a donation of $1,386 as a result of their efforts!

We're so appreciative of their support and would highly recommend checking them out if you're in the area!

Thank you so much for all you do. Let's keep changing lives together.

Sincerely,
The NWHH Team
Meet Executive Director,
Karyn Blasi Hellar

Through volunteerism, board membership, and now as the Executive Director, Karyn has been with Northwest Hope and Healing for over 5 years.

Karyn became involved with NWHH when she met Founder, Christine Smith, through her husband, Chip Hellar. She volunteered with the organization and was ultimately asked to join the Board of Directors while working at Swedish Cancer Institute. Karyn served as both Vice Chair and Chair of the NWHH Board of Directors before transitioning to the role of Executive Director nearly three years ago. NWHH has flourished under Karyn’s leadership. Together with an engaged, supportive, and hard-working team of Board Members and Volunteers, Karyn has facilitated astounding growth at NWHH and has developed an extensive network of partnerships in the local community.

The fundamental unfairness of a cancer - and that a diagnosis outside of an individual’s control can derail plans, jobs, financial security, and futures - is what drives Karyn’s passion to do this work. She prides NWHH’s role in supporting patients and in giving them the knowledge that local community isn’t willing to let them face their journey alone. From small boutiques to breweries, and larger corporations to tattoo studios – Karyn has cultivated an environment where everyone pitches in to share love and understanding with local women during trying times in their lives.

When looking to the future of NWHH, Karyn is most excited about the continued growth of the organization and the resulting ability to touch more lives through spreading awareness and helping more patients. Karyn is looking forward to seeing the results of the great momentum built over the last three years.

When asked about her favorite part of the organization – it’s the people!

“Some of the volunteers have become some of my best friends, we have a special, accepting, loving group of women and men who are so inspirational - and we love to have fun!

This is a hard-working group of people, many of which with full-time jobs, and they spend their free time rolling up their sleeves to make a difference. It’s an upbeat, energetic, creative group, and I would love to continue to add more people and more perspectives to the work we do.”
The Seattle Public School Bridges Program is a longtime supporter of Northwest Hope and Healing's Healing Box Outreach. Volunteers work with Swedish Cancer Institute to assemble Healing Boxes with products generously donated by the community!

With the help of these students, we're able to make sure that each newly diagnosed patient at Swedish receives a comforting Healing Box as they begin their journey to healing.

Our Mission

Northwest Hope & Healing was founded by Christine Smith in 2000, roughly 2 months after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The mission she envisioned from the beginning is the same today:  to provide financial assistance to women in need who are battling breast and gynecological cancer at the Swedish Cancer Institute.

Our Patient Assistance Fund provides assistance for everyday living expenses such as child care, groceries, reliable transportation, and emergency rent. Our signature “Healing Boxes” are assembled and delivered, at no charge, to women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer at all Swedish Cancer Institute Campuses.

Northwest Hope & Healing is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, EIN 20-0799737.
