Northwest Hope & Healing Family and Friends,

As Mother's Day approaches, we can't help but stop and think of all the mothers, grandmothers, adopted mothers, honorary mothers, and motherly figures in our lives that we honor this month. Somehow they always have just a little more love to give than we think is even possible!

When one of our mothers was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago we had a chance to give some of that love back. And then the love kept pouring in! When she received a Healing Basket gift of her own, it brought a lot of light and love to a scary time. As one of our patients we met with this week told us - knowing that a perfect stranger cares enough to reach out and do something beautiful for you makes a huge difference. It grows the love.

As we move into our last month of planning for Style '19, we are excited and humbled by this opportunity to make such a huge difference in the lives of those we serve, and we're grateful to you - our community - for supporting women and men facing their diagnoses with grace, poise, and bravery. We can't wait to celebrate these men, women (& mothers!!) with you next month.

Sincerely,
The NWHH Team
Meet Volunteer, Jessica Branning!

How long have you been involved with NWHH?  Style 19' will be my second year with NWHH.

What got you involved/keeps you involved? My dear friend Katherine (she is a survivor and volunteer) told me about the event and asked for my help and I'm so glad she did!  This is an amazing organization with dedicated volunteers working hard to help those in need.

What are you most excited about for the future of NWHH?  I'm most excited about the momentum NWHH is gaining in the local community.  Each event is getting bigger and better which means more supporters and donations.

What would you tell someone about getting involved in volunteering with us?  Just do it!  NWHH has created a close community of volunteers that goes beyond this one event.  The support we all give to one another is so special.

Is there something you're most proud of in your volunteerism with NWHH?  I love seeing the joy and excitement in the models faces as they strut down the runway.  I also love seeing the relationships that build between the models and the support they give each other.
Who I am: Jenna Merriam, 20 years old.

What I do: College student in my last quarter finishing up my associates degree at Shoreline Community College, and will transfer to Central Washington University in the fall to complete my bachelors degree in Apparel, Textiles and Merchandising.

Role in the show: This will be my second year helping with Northwest Hope and Healing's Style fashion show. My roles include assisting the stylist Jessica with model fittings prior to the event, helping backstage during the event, and following run-of-show.

Why I got involved: Although helping out with the show aligns with my professional goals, working with Northwest Hope and Healing is very special and personal to me as well. My mother is a breast cancer survivor, and I have a cousin who is currently in the midst of battling her 3rd diagnosis. Working on this event to support NWHH's mission as well as empowering our models is an opportunity that I'm honored to participate in. Being a part of a collective effort to support such an important cause, makes the work all the more rewarding. I love that I'm gaining experience in my desired career field, but even more importantly being a part of something greater than myself.

Favorite parts: Meeting the models, hearing different people's experiences, working towards event day and seeing how everything comes together beautifully.

Hobbies: Going to concerts, collecting records and crystals, swing dancing, spending time with my my Mini Australian Shepherd, hanging out with my family and friends.

Our Mission

Northwest Hope & Healing was founded by Christine Smith in 2000, roughly 2 months after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The mission she envisioned from the beginning is the same today:  to provide financial assistance to women in need who are battling breast and gynecological cancer at the Swedish Cancer Institute.

Our Patient Assistance Fund provides assistance for everyday living expenses such as child care, groceries, reliable transportation, and emergency rent. Our signature “Healing Boxes” are assembled and delivered, at no charge, to women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer at all Swedish Cancer Institute Campuses.

Northwest Hope & Healing is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, EIN 20-0799737.
