Northwest Hope & Healing Family and Friends,

Happy Breast Cancer Awareness Month & thanks for all you do!

On Saturday, October 5th, the amazing artists at Dark Age Tattoo Studio came to work for free. They spent an entire 8-hour day creating tattoo after tattoo and donated the entire fee to Northwest Hope and Healing to support our programs and men and women who are in the fights of their lives. They raised an astounding $5,320 for NWHH!

Starting at 7am, a line of people snaked down the sidewalk even though the studio wouldn't open until noon. People brought books, chairs, and friends with them. By 2pm, the list was full. We had the opportunity to chat with folks as they waited their turns. Some had never heard of Northwest Hope and Healing Before - but had aunts, grandmothers, mothers, and friends that they thanked us on behalf of. Others have been regulars at Dark Age's $50 tattoo day since owner, Eric Eye, started the fundraiser 3 years ago.

Our hearts are so full. Of course the money raised by this event will make such a huge difference in the lives of individuals as they fight cancer and focus on healing, but the love and generosity of the artists at Dark Age makes this amazing event all the more incredible. A huge thank you to participating artists, Jesse Robert, Derek Noble, Eric Eye, Heidi Sandhorst, Erik Jacobsen, Tori Wartooth, Sebastian Mazuera and Derek Live! The donation of an entire day of work to help make the life of a complete stranger a little easier is an incredible gift. Time and time again we're astounded by amazing people in our community, and this past weekend was an incredible reminder of what wonderful people we in our corner.

Thank you for being in our corner, too.

The NWHH Team

Edgar Riebe of Captive Eye Media has been a long-time volunteer with Northwest Hope and Healing. He donates his time and professional expertise to shoot and produce the videos you've seen at our events. This month, Edgar shares with us a little more about his involvement with NWHH.

How long have you been involved with NWHH? I have been volunteering with NWHH for 9 1/2 years. My first video was for Style ’10, and I have never looked back.

What got you involved/keeps you involved? After I lost my second parent to cancer I knew I had to get involved somehow with fighting cancer. NWHH was a perfect place to make a difference using my skills in video producing. I keep coming back because I love the work that NWHH does and it feels good knowing you are part of such a wonderful effort to help women in need.

What are you most excited about for the future of NWHH? I dream of a day where NWHH has to go in a different direction because cancer is cured and nobody has to fight this horrible disease. Until then, I am happy to see NWHH grow and reach more and more women in need.

What would you tell someone about getting involved in volunteering with us? Do it. Make someone’s difficult battle a little easier. Help others and see how you grow as a person.

Is there something you're most proud of in your volunteerism with NWHH? I love when my work moves people, when my video captures the NWHH stories and shares them with the audience. I’m proud to know that I help raise money that helps so many in need.

Our Mission

Northwest Hope & Healing was founded by Christine Smith in 2000, roughly 2 months after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The mission she envisioned from the beginning is the same today:  to provide financial assistance to women in need who are battling breast and gynecological cancer at the Swedish Cancer Institute.

Our Patient Assistance Fund provides assistance for everyday living expenses such as child care, groceries, reliable transportation, and emergency rent. Our signature “Healing Boxes” are assembled and delivered, at no charge, to women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer at all Swedish Cancer Institute Campuses.

Northwest Hope & Healing is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, EIN 20-0799737.
