Fix Your Eyes on Christ

Jesus was saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." — Mark 1:15

I recently finished reading through the Gospel of Matthew and I strongly desired to continue seeing such a beautiful vision of Christ, so I decided to begin reading the Gospel of Mark next. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day to repent and believe the gospel! We truly serve an amazing Savior and Lord and it's a joy to serve Him. Fixing my eyes on Christ compels me to labor and strive to make disciples by the strength that God provides (Col. 1:28-29).
As far as French, I’ve been doing well on my exams so far, but I still need much improvement in non-rehearsed conversation. Learning French has been challenging, but I am really enjoying it overall. Thank you for your love and prayers. Your sacrificial support of our family enables us to work on this critical foundation of foreign missions
—learning the language of the people!
We continually thank God for you.

Our Girls

Our daughters are adjusting well to school and our new routine here. They especially love their French lessons that their school provides for foreign students (about 6 hours/week).
  • Izzy has made lots of friends in her class and is learning the trumpet.
  • Lydia likes when she is asked to help teach the English pronunciation when her class is learning basic English.
  • Anna loved learning to ice skate with her class on the Halle Olympique indoor arena (1992 Winter Olympics).
  • This week at school, Clara was blessed to make bread and take a bus to visit the library.
Their teachers have been wonderful and they are learning more French every day.

This is our dear friend and brother in Christ, Alain. He is our French language helper who comes over every week so we can practice conversations.

Family Visit!

We were blessed to have Ashley's parents come and visit us during our fall break in October. It was wonderful to be with family again and create many special memories together. We are so thankful they could come!

A Note from Ashley

Bonjour dear brothers and sisters,
We are feeling more settled here in Albertville, France. I find learning French to be quite a challenge, but I continue to persevere and pray daily for God’s help. It is encouraging to look back on the last 3 months and realize how much I have learned.
We have all enjoyed the beautiful season change with colorful fall leaves and snow falling this week! I am truly grateful to be here and to have this opportunity to prepare for Madagascar with dedicated time to focus on learning French. Living here has confirmed to us that this year of language learning is critical preparation for future ministry. Not only are we learning French, but we are learning how to live as foreigners. Although it is extremely challenging, it is a daily reminder that we are merely sojourners on this earth and that our true citizenship is in heaven. We have much to rejoice over.
I am truly thankful for each one of you who read our updates, pray for us, encourage us, and give financially so that we can be here. I know that God is answering your prayers for our family on a daily basis. I’d love to hear from you! You can reach me through my email (, Facebook messenger, WhatsApp (+1-520-400-0785), Marco Polo, and Voxer. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Merci beaucoup!

Praise Report:

  • Praise God that Ashley's parents were able to come visit us on the field. We all enjoyed spending precious time with them.
  • Praise God for the French we have been able to learn by His grace. It feels like an insurmountable summit, but each stretch we complete brings us closer.
  • Thank you for praying for our 4-year old Clara. She has stopped crying every day when we drop her off at school.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for endurance in learning French! Discouragement can creep in easily with the amount of material we need to learn so quickly.
  • Pray for strength and encouragement for our teammates in Madagascar, Faly and Lily Ravoahangy.
  • Pray for God to grant wisdom and direction to our friends Austin and Christiana Yost who recently returned from an exploratory trip to Madagascar.
  • Pray for our first Thanksgiving and Christmas overseas and away from family.

Joy from God's Word

I wanted to share with you the joy of this Malagasy pastor as he received his own new Malagasy Bible. Thank you for those who have prayed for God's Word to go forth in Madagascar.
All Glory Be to Christ,
David & Ashley, Isabella (age 9), Lydia (age 8), Anna (age 6), and Clara (age 4)
