The End Game

We are in the final push! Every day is filled with tasks that will enable us to move. Thank you to all who have said words of encouragement, offered to help, and who are praying for our final weeks in LA. The time line below will give you some of the highlights of key events since our last newsletter in March all the way to our move to Albertville, France later this summer.

On March 30th, Ashley was able to speak to the ladies of Family Heritage Church on the important doctrine of sanctification. She had a wonderful time in God's Word and in fellowship with these wonderful ladies.

A Note from Ashley:

We are quickly turning the last pages of an amazing chapter in our life. Each day brings us closer to the end of a season that we will never forget! Six years ago we moved our family (girls were 3, 2 & 8-weeks old) to Los Angeles for Daddy to go to seminary. Now, we are very excited about the next steps in the future, and yet sad to leave such a special place. I feel very blessed for our years here at The Master's Seminary and Grace Community Church. We will forever be indebted to the many godly people who have invested in us!

I keep telling people that leaving is very bitter-sweet. One of our joys here has been to host our Bible Study for the last four years, and we will greatly miss all of you in our study group. I have been continuing my biblical counseling sessions and I am so thankful for how the Lord has grown me through this certification process. Learning to live and apply Scripture to every area of life is so crucial to the Christian walk.

When I start to feel overwhelmed lately, I sing the song that says, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace."

David enjoyed a wonderful weekend with fellow believers at Calvary Independent Church in Harrisburg, PA. One of the great blessings was being able to stay in the home of Steven and Julie Shangraw and spend time with this sweet and fun family. On May 5th, David had the opportunity to share about the ministry in Madagascar, the worth of Christ, do some Q&A, and preach from Habakkuk 3:16-19.

A Note from David:

I am currently in the midst of intense study to best prepare for my ordination exam on May 14th. Three elders of my church will test me on Bible knowledge, systematic theology, and practical theology/counseling for a 3 hour oral exam. Thank you for praying for this exam and my preparations for it.

In case you are wondering, ordination is the process by which the existing elders of a local church examine the life and doctrine of a man who aspires to do the work of an overseer (1 Timothy 3:1) and is biblically qualified to serve as an elder (1 Timothy 3:2–7; Titus 1:6–9). Then, after seeking the Lord in prayer, they appoint such a man as either a fellow elder to shepherd the flock among them, or as a missionary to be sent out by the church to plant or strengthen churches in foreign lands.

Studying for ordination has been a special blessing as it has provided hours of deeper reflection on God through His Word. Each time I sit down to study, I end up in another time of worship. Praise God for this intense time of study!

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for David's ordination exam at Grace Community Church on May 14th.
  • Pray for God's abundant grace as we make final preparations to leave the country.
  • Pray for us as we look for a storage solution for the items we plan to ship to Madagascar. We'll need to store them for the 12 months we are in France.
All Glory Be to Christ,
